    USBP News

Just wanted to let everyone know that USBP is now hiring people at the GS-9 level. I haven't had a chance to look into the requirements to be hired at the GS-9 level yet but I'll post them A.S.A.P. or just check USAJOBS

Other good news is that USBP is going back to a Lead Agent Position. This means that BP agents will automatically promote up to the GS-11 level and then compete for a GS-12 position (Lead Agent). First Line Supervisors and above will all receive a grade increase. I.E. GS-12 Supervisors will go to a GS-13 position.

This will mostly help management as all supervisors, well all GS-12 & GS-13's I don't know about 14's and above, will receive a grade increase while only a small percentage of the "Rank & File" Agents will receive a grade increase.

Of course I haven't seen anything offical on this yet but our Supervisors announced it at muster yesterday.

Thanks for the info, as far as I knew GS-9 was for prior LE only but when I first applied (about 3 month ago) it said I qualify for GS-9 based off of a survey on the type of LE experience.

I'm glad they (USBP) is going to start to recongize military LEO's as LEO's.

The only thing my time as a USAF LEO got me was a higher annual leave bracket and added time to my retirement, well after I bought it back

I may have been wrong about the whole GS-12 thing. It seems half of Mangt thinks were going to it and the other half says no were not. So as soon as I find out I'll let everyone know.

I understand that BPA(t)s automatically promote to GL-9 (if they come in at 7) after the 7 month, but when do we (I) make it to 11? I seem to remember being told that it comes when we hit the 2-year mark, but I'm not sure.

OBP would like to go to a journeyman 12 position, but there are some logistical problems with doing it. I've heard of several meetings to try and figure out the best solution, but I haven't heard of a final solution.

    Just my fairly uninformed opinion

A BPA(T) can enter service as a GS-7 then after the academy and the 6 month exam (1 Month after the academy) the BPA(T) would promote to a GS-9 for a year and then to GS-11 a year after that. So after 2 1/2 years of service it's possible to be a journeyman BPA GS-11.

If hired as a GS-9 there is no promotion at the 6 month mark and then promote to a GS-11 after a year.

From what I understand starting next month there will no longer be a 6 or 10 month exam and new hires now have a 2 year probation. In a lot of ways this is a good thing as the 6 & 10 month exams are mostly popularity contests.

Who ever heard of a test where the most you could make as a perfect score would be a 60% The rating board would have to give you at least another 10% to pass as 70% is the minimmum passing score. Unpopular native Spanish speakers have been known to fail the test

A lot depends on the board. I made my 6 month exam with a 70.8% and lost over 5 points just in spelling (those that know me know I can't spell for anything let alone add the stress of that test) then 3 months later I made a 87.8% on the 10 month exam, no one can tell me my Spanish got that much better in 3 months.

We have a 2 year probationary period now. I had heard that the trainees that EOD after 10/01 will have an even longer probation in lieu of the 7 & 10s.

That depends. It could be Explosive Ordnance Disposal but in this case it stands for Entry on Duty.

I keep forgetting how to insert a picture in the post itself.
