    Fletc

Im going to FLETC within the next month and was wondering what to expect. I will be staying at FLETC. I've read a few previous posts about FLETC but they are old. Im not driving. Does anyone know if there is a convenient store near the FLETC to purchase necessities. Whats provided in the room for you. Do you have to bring your own laundy detergent? towel? etc. Or will everyday necessities be provided to you?

Well when I was there I was staying in the Taj, it had everything. Had a TV, VDR minifridge, microwave, etc all in the room, basically a hotel room. There is a shop or two on the facility but you will need your own laundry detergent and things like that. I am sure that someone in your class will be more than happy to drive you to one of the surrounding businesses (wall mart, grocery store, mall, whatever) so I wouldnt worry too much about not having a car. This was just my experience, but somewhat limited since I didnt stay in the old dorms.

FLETC will provide room service to clean the room, except on weekends. You will have to provide your own detergent and then wait in the lines to use the washers that work. If you get into the Taj consider yourself very lucky!!!!

I was just there the rooms are nothing special. No TV, cable, or internet. just a room, bed, desk, chair, and a bathroom (depends on the dorm on weather or not you have a bathroom to yourself or if you have to share it :eek. That's about it.

Yes there is a store where you can buy things on FLETC and they have a bus that will take you into town to wal-mart, the mall, ect... Get ready for the loooooong lines at the chow hall. right now FLETC is filled to bursting. If your already a LEO you may get lucky and get put into a hotel off base, like I was.

If you can take a car, TAKE A CAR!!! FLETC gets old quick and so do the rtequests to those who do have a car to take you here and there. Also depends on how long you're going to be at FLETC.

    What are you going for?

There is a very small convenience store/souvenir store on base. I'm told that there is now a small strip mall across the street from the Main gate which did not exist the last time I was there over a decade ago.

Regarding a car, it really depends on how long you are going to be there for. If you are there for less than a week, you may be able to tolerate not having a car. If you are there for more than a week, relying on rides from fellow classmates, or using the shuttle bus is going to get old very, very quickly.

If you've never been to Georgia, having a car available will give you an opportunity to see some interesting places. The immediate area is called the "Golden Isles"; a resort area in southern Georgia consisting of St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island, and Sea Island. Savannah is about a hour drive north, while Jacksonville, FL is about a hour drive south.

P.S. If you drive and get stopped around there - DO NOT flash the tin!!! Local Law Enforcement has seen and heard it all, and professional courtesy does NOT extend to Fed trainees!

+1 First day, first hour, that's one of the very first things they tell you, "don't p!ss off the local LE" On one of our rare days off (it was 6 days/ week when I was there), I got stopped by FHP on my way to Jacksonville, took the ticket like a big boy and called it good.

For some reason, the other thing that they tell you in the first hour of the first day is that apparently the Glynco area has a high incidence of STD's.
Scurvy pirates, they should be made to walk the plank!!!:D

If you are there for an extended stay, take advantage of the Rec. Services bus to concerts, ball games, hockey. Very reduced price and it will be a bus ride that you will NEVER forget!;) My buddy went to a couple of Jaguars games for real cheap.

I think this clip from PCU sums it up nicely, minus the no class before 11, oh and the women part if you are in the CITP smurf gear, just like being a freshmen.

Enjoy, seriously though, take a car. I don't know which agency you are there with, but think about 12-16 weeks, begging for rides and not being able to just jet when you want. I couldn't do it, I bought a car, when I went down the last time just to have one.

It is nicer if you bring your vehicle. It is like making instant friends.
While the new dorms are nicer, you are better off in Bldg 95. Less distractions and pretty close to the classrooms. The buses run to the stores on a pretty regular basis. The chow hall is packed, but there are alternatives. Just focus on why you are there. You will need an umbrella as the rain has been regular. Use bug spray like it is going out of style with 100% deet and keep hydrated.

    Best of luck,

    LT

Dude, if "I" were you I would bring a car. You would be the most "POPULAR" person in your class. Those evening trips to Wally World, Pams Cop bar, Sallys Cop Shop, Downtown Brunswyck, Jacksonville, Savanah the list is endless. Again you might be voted class "President"..... ;)

Should I bring workout clothes for me to run on my spare time, going out on weekend clothes? The gym clothes they issue are only for classroom Physical training or are they the offical workout clothes in and out of school? Do they have wireless setup in rooms at FLETC? No one has yet mentioned that there are different FLETCs. So far it looks like most of you are referring to Glynco.

Next week I will be starting at Artesia. Yay! :D

I take it the BP348 is the CITP class number? ATF issues their own workout gear for class. In the afterhours you needs to wear the FLETC issue gear. Also, once the ATF school starts (SABT) you will most likely be living off base. So are you in the ATF SABT that starts in October? Be ready for the PEB, start now if you haven't already, it is being taken a bitmore seriously these days.

I was answering BP348's question. Sorry that isnt the class number. I start Aug 20 for the first part and then Early Dec for the ATF part.. So what your saying if I want to workout outside of work/class, I will need to wear my own workout clothes or the FLETC approved gym clothes?

Not in my class, just a bunch of hairy stinky dudes! No chicks at all in ours!

I wanted to see proof that the other chicks that I saw down there were really female also, just couldn't believe some of them grazers considered LE.

If you use FLETC facilities, after hours or not, you must wear the FLETC gym clothing. If you go running outside on your own, the back woods, roads, etc, you may wear what you want.
