FBI - Physical Fitness Test Question

I am currently scheduled to take the Phase I exam. Though I know it's a long way off, and I don't count my chickens before they're hatched - I do have a concern. (Lengthy so please bare with me).

I recently had a doctor take a look at my knee, and a MRI done on it. I could possibly have a torn meniscus, if that's the case I would have to have orthoscopic surgery followed by a two-week recovery time. I have not been able to run on it for about 3 months (military - so it took a LONG time to see the right people).

MY QUESTION: If I make it past Phase II, would they post-pone my PT Test or perhaps at least "freeze" my application to allow me to take it when I am healed or would I have to start all over and reapply at the next hiring cycle?

I am debating just dealing with the pain and post-poning the surgery, I can run but it hurts a fair amount; the doc said there would be a danger or messing it up further. I know it's a long way off, but since I'm out of the military in a few months, and thus I know the surgery if necessary would happen in a few months - it is a concern of mine.

Thank you for the help (and reading of this novel)

If you are leaving the military do not post-pone the surgery. My opinion is 90% of all surgeries have lingering effects. By doing the surgery now you are increasing the amount of time to discover these issues. If you are not in like new condition, go to the hospital and complain, often, if your issue has not been resolved. You might have to reapply with the FBI, but by doing things this way you will be more likely to obtain a VA disability or an increased disability. The rating might cause issues with your medical when you are hired, but it will also give you extra points toward being hired and possible place you in a higher category of veteran. As long as your medical issues do not interfere with you doing the job they can't hold it against you.

I missed out on an extra 20% by not doing this. That would take my total rating up to 40%. The rating is pretty much a guaranteed paycheck for life.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.

Boy I'd be surprised if you got between Phase I and the physical in under a year. IMO: you're jumping the gun. Just fix yourself up physically, you should have plenty of time to rehab.

    Same thought as Wolfman...

Will claiming any VA disability prevent any jobs in FBI. I am currently tracking in the tactical program and the doctors, during my ETS physical, have said I can pull 20-30% disability.

    Thoughts...?

    Thanks.

They cannot use your disability against you (thanks to the Americans with Didabilities Act of 1990). As long as you can pass the physical requirements, you should be fine.

FWIW, my partner on USMS Special Operation Group had something like 20% disability on his back from the Air Force.
