Statements like that indicate to me that you "assume" everyone knows what you know, and is aware of what you are aware of relating to the Internet.

However, this is not all about you ..... this discussion should be for those who are NOT aware they are leaving a permanent record or "trail" on the Internet; those who would otherwise post a "strongly worded opinion" (I'm trying to be polite) criticizing some politician, Agency, Government policy, or worse on some blogsite or forum which can later be dredged up during a job application, background investigation, security clearance, or confirmation.

Processes such as those above are not subject to your standard reviews, and there is no opportunity for rebuttal. As a result, there candidates out there who have been disqualified never knowing it was because of some personal opinion or emotional statement made years ago on the internet (or elsewhere) while they were high school or college.

I agree with that statement completely. Once it's on the internet it's on the internet for life whether you like it or not. Additionally, if you have a highly critical view of goverment, politics, or just can't keep your mouth shut, then you probably don't belong in government work anyway.

No, I don't assume people know what I know, but I suppose that gives me that advantage doesn't it?

The only thing it brough up were my posts on real police and honorfirst. And some contributions I have made to a few science databases, that's about it.

That statement expressed that I should be concerned with my dealings on the internet, when infact I have no reason to be.

I do agree some people need to realize the dangers of the internet, and what they do on it. Maybe we could write something up and ask the moderators to put it as a sticky.

Similar suggestions have been made in the past. When I made my suggestion:

a Moderator essentially stated that there were many other websites and Forums dedicated to computer related issues and that this Forum was, "First and foremost [this is] a police site.", which I felt was reasonable.
