I was thinking if it is better to forget about applying to any federal agencies and go into the military which I would really like to do, then after 4-8 years depending on how I like it,apply to an agency?

This would depend on which agencies you are interested in. FBI wants people above 23 and with work experience, while the Border Patrol would hire a recent graduate. Get my drift? What agencies are you interested in and what military branch and jobs would you like?
