At the end of November i received a conditional offer of employment from ICE for a special agent position. Since returning my paper work i haven't heard anything from them. Every time i check the on-line status it says that the background check and qualifications are pending. Does anyone know how i can obtain more info on my status or how long ICE usually takes.
From what I have read on other forums, the ICE process can take years. There have been many that were stuck on a single step in the process for a year or more. If you havent gotten a thin letter, then you are definately still in the game. You might want to give your recruiter a ring but my guess is they will tell you to sit tight.....
If you're in pending status the recruiter can't help you it all comes from the hiring center.

I was wondering if ICE changed something with there test? I tested back in September 06 in Tampa. Received a passing score but never had an actual number associated with the score. I see people saying they scored in the 80s or 90s but mine just said it was pass/fail. Is that just the SA exam? Since that time I have passed the Interview and been given the all clear from the medical. So I assume I did pretty well on the exam. Another thing I was wondering about and if this is the same for anyone else who applied to ICE, Cass still says it hasn’t received my BI from that is needed to start the background and says they haven’t received all my forms yet but they have been sent in weeks ago. I guess they are just sitting somewhere in the pile to be reviewed.
My buddy, who is in the ICE adamemy right now, was able to get info from some 800 number for more specifics after being given the conditional offer. If you don't have said number, call your local contact and see what they can tell you. FWIW, he received his conditional offer last fall sometime and started the academy a month or so ago.

I took the written test in January 2007 and passed the SI in April. I'm thinking about moving to Boston until the whole process is finished, but I'm worried that once I move (in September) that the process will be quicker than I thought and I'd get the call in like January. Any advice?
Just do what you're gonna do. You can't plan your life around if the G calls. If you were gonna move than move. It can take up to 3 years to get the report to FLETC call.

How often are ICE SAs expected to move or get reassigned. Can one get assigned to one office and stay there for a carreer or is different locations mandatory.
Generally as an agency we are not required to move. If you get promoted to Group Sup. there is a very good chance you'll get sent to HQ (DC). You will however, switch groups within the SAC office.

Just got called today for my drug test or wiz quiz....Nothing to worry about there so all that leaves is my background to finish up and my qualifications.:D
Finally got a pin and am ready to begin the looong, difficult process! Hey, anyone know if there is any salary negotiation for current feds possible when hired? I was surprised to see that they only hire at GS-5 or 7. Most other agencies offer a 9 to start if you have the education or experience. I realize I would have to take somewhat of a paycut no matter what, but I just was wondering to what extent ICE took salary into consideration if you were coming from another agency. Anyone have any idea how that usally works?
Yeah the recruiter told me I would probably start at a 7 step 10 if I were hired (of course there are no guarantees). And I would certainly take whatever they offered to get into ICE (its not like I wouldnt make it back in a few years anyway). Right now Im just happy I got a pin lol!
BP, have you heard of the occasional GS-9 announcement that ICE occasionally offers? Its supposedly for current DHS employees (there was one last fall I think). From what I remember its a streamlined process for current feds (no test), but I havent seen anything like that posted by ICE since last year. Wonder If they will have another similar announcement anytime soon...
