I have to say it still amuses me when people say "The Fletc" it's really a stupid thing, but we've always just referred to it as FLETC. . . .Oh well I ramble.
Things down here are pretty much the same with the exception of the doubling in rooms. The chicken is still a very sketchy shade of pink and I just got back from the health center with a couple of friends and one of them was diagnosed with MRSA. (Look it up, know what it is, and how to protect yourself) Apparently it's the infection of the year for THE Fletc.
Classes are alright so far, nothing insane, A LOT of legal, so start drinking coffee now. The intructors try and make it as exciting as possible. . . but the 4th Amendment is the 4th Amendment. . . it's not exciting, just really confusing.
The weather here right now is perfect for all the Physical Training. As much as I would recommend getting into the habit of running before you get here, I would REALLY recommend doing push-ups. . . A LOT of them. Today in class we were punished for . . . some things . . . . and had to do 60 push-ups. . . 10 each of a variety of evil push-ups, then we got punished for some other things and had to do "burpees" (which are worse than evil push-ups) and lunges (which are cake compared to both).
We started firearms today and that went well. Other than that The Fletc is basically what I remembered it being, with the exception of a lot less social, now that people all have cell phones, ipods, laptops and net books.
Good luck to you all that got TO's recently hopefully we'll see some of you down here soon.
Anyone have any updates? Dallas has told me my medical and drug test have cleared, and my Background shows pending. Still haven't heard from a BI.
I thought I read somewhere that ICE is going to be having another recruiting drive. Can anybody confirm or deny this? I know that they recently had one.
Thanks
I can't confirm or deny, but someone posted something about an announcement in November. We'll see..
AD MAJOREM DEI GLORIAM
Heard the same thing (Im here in ICESAT right now), Another 24-hour announcement coming in the late Oct/Nov timeframe. Keep checking the website. If I hear anything more I will let you guys know.
I'm a little surprised they'd be having another announcement so soon after the last one. There are so many people in the pipeline already. I figured it was already a CF without adding even more applicants.
I heard (through the grapevine at my work) that a higher percentage than expected failed this last testing round. Don't know of there's any truth to that...but that's what I heard.
Do you have to have black running shoes for FLETC (ice) or will any shoes suffice? Just found out that I'm going there next month and I'm scrambling to get everything I need.
Thanks for the info!
Would anyone be willing to share any tips or suggestions (either here or via PM/E-mail/Phone) on successfully contacting the Special Agent Recruiter at busy ICE offices? My local office is the DC one (Fairfax, VA actually), and I would much rather apply via the local office to increase chances of a local posting.
Last time, in June, I waited until the official announcement was made on the Web site, but I was told by whoever answered at the DC office that no more resumes were being accepted, but I could fax mine in for future consideration. (I did fax it in then) Knowing this, and seeing that an announcement could be forthcoming, I just called again and was told that they were not recruiting at this time, but I could fax my resume in if I wanted (notice a pattern?).
I worry that simply faxing my resume and cover letter in won’t actually get it in front of someone who will be making decisions about PINs when the time comes. Anyone have suggestions for actually getting through to someone to talk about the position / my qualifications etc? Also, any thoughts on when I should start working the phone lines, knowing that announcement could happen sometime this or next month?
Thanks!
smashr,
As of right now, what I suggest you do is check the ICE.gov website fairly regularly over the next 2 months. From what we here there was a high number of failures on the last ICE SA exam and they are going to put out another open announcement period soon. Once again the announcement will probably only be for 24-hours. When you see the announcement be aggressive sending out resumes, as 17k applied last time around.
Keep in mind it dosent matter what office you get your pin (i think they call it a marketing code now) from. That has nothing to do with location you may get. What I did when I initially applied was fax my resumes to 6 different offices. 2 Called me back and offered me a pin (Fairfax is where I got mine from). In the past the office you interview out of (which you choose when you register for the test) gives you a better chance of getting that location IF the office has vacancies and you are recommended for hire in that office. Otherwise its all about the needs of the agency. Also heard this week again that ICE will be sending many new hires next year to southwest border offices as there is still a big need down there.
anyone change their interview from the original place they put on the form?
