I have seen AN announcement for GS-9 with ICE, but it was only once, for candidates already in the system.
I'm not the one you asked, but since I might have some intel for you, I respond anyway. A little birdie that would know, told me (in Jan) that ICE was planning on doing the same kind of announcement twice this year. One would be for current CBP employees, which is/was supposed to open sometime during the first half of the year, and the other would be for DHS employees, set to open in the latter half of the year. As it's now June and I haven't heard anybody at my station mention either of those types of openings (and ICE openings are usually big talk about the station), I couldn't say for sure if either/both openings are still in the works or not. They probably are, but you know how the gov't moves...sloooowwwwBP, have you heard of the occasional GS-9 announcement that ICE occasionally offers? Its supposedly for current DHS employees (there was one last fall I think). From what I remember its a streamlined process for current feds (no test), but I havent seen anything like that posted by ICE since last year. Wonder If they will have another similar announcement anytime soon...
Doing what you've done, gets you what you got.
I personally know several people picked up by ICE as nine's, and know of several more. As you said however, they were all already employed in an LE capacity by DHS.I have seen AN announcement for GS-9 with ICE, but it was only once, for candidates already in the system.

i wonder how this effects DHS people who are already in the process. probably, too bad!

See that I what I was wondering. Since those internal announcements are under a different process/announcement would someone who is DHS already in the "entry level" process be able to apply for the GS-9 internal process should one open up?
I'm pretty sure that ICE SAs go to Glynco for training. Is that correct? Are there more than 1 pahse of the training? Such as if you have been to the FLETC Basic Police Phase... do you pick up with the next phase for ICE SA?
ICE SAs do have two 'phases' of training CITP and ICESAT. I finally got with a recruiter and my PIN is on the way, should be testing in Sept.
I got a call from the philly FO 2 days ago seeing if i was still interested in the SA position. I said sure...so he sent out the packet and the pin number. He said that the test would be in September. Does this hiring process follow the same geneal steps as the FAMS hiring process? I dont know if i would jump ship so soon if i was offered the job in 10 months or so. But im always keeping ALL my options open.
Congrats on the PIN ecko! I just got my packet from DC and am sched. for the Newark test in Sept. From what I know the process is like this:
Test, Interview, Tent. Offer, Medical, Background, Training and Sched. designation, Final Offer.
Keep in mind the ICE process has traditionally been very long. It can literally be months between steps. I know some that took the test back in early 05' and finally got picked up this year. 10 months would be pretty quick and way below what most wait so I wouldnt worry too much about it. Just be prepared to wait....a lot!

Hi Maverick24,
Unfortunately, from my experience perhaps the only thing more complex and subject to interpretation than the Federal Personnel Manual may be the Internal Revenue Manual.
Many years ago we hired an internal applicant who had to take a downgrade from GS-12 to GS-9 because he was told he could not be at the journeyman grade without having completed our agency specific core basic training at FLETC. Less than two years later we hired an external candidate who happened to be an attorney as a GS-12!!! I inquired on behalf of the internal hire but never got a satisfactory answer.
I realize that when starting out with a new agency, you would be reluctant to make waves, but I would politely inquire to ensure that you were getting fully credited for your previous Federal service and training, and that some Personnel Specialist did not misinterpret something in your package.
Congratulations and Best Wishes to you all!

SSA,
Thank you for the good advice as usual! I did some research and spoke to the recruiter, supposedly ICE does indeed occasionally have internal status GS-9 postings for DHS officers/agents looking to make the jump over to ICE, it is under these postings that Federal time, experience, and pay matching are taken under consideration. Also I was told there is no test under these postings, just a panel interview, medical etc. Supposedly one of these postings will be on usajobs sometime this year (possibly this summer) but nothing concrete. The position that I applied under (and most applicants do) is the entry level GS 5/7, where everyone is pretty much treated the same. I think GS-7 step 10 would be the max starting pay for prior feds with education from what I understand.
Hello boys and girls,
I have been in the ICE SA process since May of 2006 and everything is showing complete in CASS except for my qualifications and they have been pending for almost a year now.
Does anyone know the ryme or reason some applicants get evaluated faster than others?
Any movement out there?
