    Lesser known federal agencies

everybody knows after the FBI, US Marshal, ATF, Customs, Secret Service. What are some good agencies that are lesser known to the vast majority of people. I would like some info on US postal inspection, and Pentagon police besides what is on their website.

Depends on what your looking for.

As far as investigator type jobs there's Drug Enforcement Agency, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Secret Service, heck even the Department of Agriculture has an investigative branch.

As far as basic police stuff you have Federal Protective Service, Capitol Police, National Park Service, Supreme Court Police, Amtrak Police, FEMA has a police section, Dept. of Defense police, Treasury police, Indian Affairs, etc. Most major Federal agencies has some type of police. Although some tend to be more security guard type work.

Go to USAjobs.com or go look at individual agency websites.

    Other Federal Agencies

As for the lesser know Federal Agencies

I can only speak for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Law Enforcement. Our agency performs traditional Law Enforcement duties. Those duties are similiar to a city or town law enforcement. Our officers are resposible for the law enforcement in RESERVATION commnities of 3 to 4 thousand people. This covers on average 2 million acres plus. This is roughly 125 square miles. Our unfirom officers enforce TRIBAL CODE, similiar to City Ordinance.

Our Special Agents respond to Major Crimes investigation identified Under Title 18 USC and the respective Tribal Code. Their investigations are performed in conjunction with the FBI. Crime Scene work, interviewing of witnesses, arrest of the suspect are many of the duties for our Agents. Case preperation, courtroom testimony are all essential part of their activities.

Most of the other Federal Agencies Uniform Officers perform SECURITY WORK (check ID, shake doors, etc.) They do not perform traditional Police Work. Their Special Agents enforce limited Title 18 offenses.

    Hope this helps

I'm sure that there is a federal agency for everything known to mankind. There is no end to the federal government, so if you are looking for a postion in the federal service and you can't find it, just wait, it will eventually be created.

Hey DC Law. US Park Police sounds great! It sounds right up my alley. Anyone know when the next open vacancy announcement will be?
