They filmed this in Artesia while I was there. The pilots all seemed happy to be there, and at the end of each week they most always picked up the bar tab. LoL
Well, all the ones I have met sure seem enthusiastic about it. :D

My very first posts on this board were about the FFDO program...there was a heated debate ;). Anyone who has read my stuff knows that because of personal connections (not personal experience) I am a huge supporter of the program and all that. But, badges? While I have no doubt that the majority of pilots are professional enough the deal with that added bit of responsibility, it just seems to me like the 10 percenters are going to get themselves into even more trouble than they did when they just had paper creds and an ID...
Any thoughts? If I could make a request,* let's remember that the avst majority of airline pilots are mature, professional, competent, seasoned, etc... many are former Military, LEO, etc...so let's not bash pilots (as sometimes happens in these threads), but I would like to hear thoughts on the badge thing.
*(Dammit, Grift, leave the moderating to the moderators!!!)
I don't have a problem with it. Every cop knows that a tin badge does not mean a thing without that police ID or the federal creds. I just hope some of these pilots do not try and walk around town with the weapon and badge on their belt while off duty. This is were I think we may have a problem.
Oh by the way. I caught an American Eagle pilot last year trying to carry his weapon with him while he was on vacation. He was on a full fare ticket with his family, not on duty, and flying on another airline. If it was not for the good work of the gate agent I would of not thought twice about it. But I busted him and he no longer has his gun and badge. FFDOs are not permitted to carry thier issued weapons unless they are going to work. If you watched the ABC news segment you would of heard the reporter say that the FFDOs jurisdiction is in the cockpit only. That has to be the smallest jurisdiction I have every heard of!
You only need a badge for identification. If someone breaks into the cockpit of an aircraft, I don't think the armed pilot needs to be pulling out no stinkin' badge.

Remember, they already have the creds identifying them as FFDO's, so what in the hell do they need badges for? As a Fam, the most folks who saw BIG's badge were airline and TSA personnel. Even then, they saw the creds 100% of the time and the badge less than 10%.
Exactley as to why they don't need badges and creds. BIG remembers speaking to a few, who saw themselves as LEO's, on the same level as BIG SEXY. BIG would explain to them, he'd had cockpit familiarization courses, so he must be qualified to be a pilot, right? For some reason, they didn't seem to believe it did, but their time on a range made them LEO's?
BIG SEXY says - "When life hands you lemons, take those same lemons & smash them into lifes' ugly *** mugg!! That'll learn'em to give you lemons."
I support the FFDO program. I am not an FFDO but I am an airline pilot (Delta Airlines) and a former municipal police officer. I have recently flown with several pilots that are FFDOs and they are very professional. A few that I have flown with regard themselves as law enforcement officers. I am somewhat confused about this. From what I have read from various sources, an FFDO is basically a pilot with a federally issued concealed carry permit for the flight deck only. That's it. I don't think that they need badges. Credentials are enough.

...continued rant...
Parker wants to use Delta for its international routes (imho). US Airways has few international routes.
Get your own freaking international routes!
Sorry for the rant.

Big that's funny, reminds me of a talk I had with a senior BP Agent (Now a FAM  ) who thought it was OK to leave out the K9 handler in his reports and say that he saw the alert/indication from the service canine. He believed that because he had worked around the K9's for 10+ years he was qualified to do this. Our having to certify once a year and conduct training evey payperiod didn't seem to matter.
For what ever reason he had a HARD time understanding that he could be making case law for the entire country by writing his reports that way. Stupid Supervisors wouldn't do anything about it either.
I finally got him to stop when I told him I wanted to be a firearms insturctor next time we qualified. He got into a big huff (he was our head instructor) and told me that I wasn't qualified to be an instructor. So I told him that according to him and his reports I had all the training and qualifcations I needed because I had been with USBP for 4 years and qualified 4 times a year with USBP and I qualified with & carried a firearm for 7 years with the Security Police in the USAF.
I couldn't believe it!! That worked  . He never left out the K9 handler or put that he had witnessed the alert again.
