    Question DEA hiring process

Just wondering if anyone out there is in the hiring process for the DEA and if they are where they are in the process right now. I was also wondering if anyone had any information on the percentage of people that get an opportunity to go to the academy. Specifically, how many people are selected by the hiring panel once they make it past the background stage. Just curious, as I am in the process right now and my BI just started. I would appreciate any info anyone had on the process, the academy, and the job. Thanks alot.

That's great, yeah I started the process back in March of this year. I have everything done except the background. I hope someone that has been through it will respond to this post. Or maybe someone in the Administration could give us some idea. Good luck to you.

When I went I took the written test and then I had the panel interview right after. The panel interview consisted of 3 Special Agents on the panel. Each one took turns asking you questions and the questions are mostly situational based. They will ask you about your background and experiences you have had. My interview took about 1 1/2 hours. Afterwards you leave the office and the recruiter tells you if you passed or not. Good luck!

I was told to call to schedule a date but no one ever answers the phone. I left a few messages but no return calls yet.

Well they will call soon. Make sure you tell me how you did. Just for info my background is almost done and it started last month about this time. They are talking to people back where I grew up. Hopefully they will be calling soon for my second pt test. Good luck to you and keep in touch.

Well done with the process so far. I am in the process as well. Went through all the steps up to the polygraph, and background check.. I took the PT test in early April 04 and passed it. How long did it take you to go from the PT test to the polygraph?? It is such a long process, it gets frustrating at times...

So your background check only took one month?? I was told mine would take 6-8 months because of time spent overseas.. Any input would be great regarding the time from PT to polygraph...

Let's see DEA PTT in Oct. 2003, and their poly in about March 2004.

I also heard that the DEA is having OPM hurry on the background checks. Mine took about one month because I've only had one full-time job (10+ years),and only moved once ever (and that was just a block away).
