    ICE IEA or CBP Officer?

I was recently given an offer for both a CBP Officer and an ICE IEA position. I applied for both positions and was going through the process for both at the same time. I was just wondering if anyone can offer me any advice on which one of these two jobs is the better choice and why?

Bottom line, the best of the two jobs is, whichever is the better fit for you.

Research the duties and responsibilities of both positions, if you have not already done so. Then, make the decision based on which interests you best.

Either that or place the names of both positions on a wall and throw a dart at them, blindfolded. Whichever one it sticks to, is the job for you.

I was in the same position, conditional offers for both ICE and CBP. ICE gave me a firm offer first so I rolled with it, and so far its all good. There are pros and cons of each, but the bottom line is what interests you the most. Personally, if given the choice all over again I would stay with ICE, but thats just me.

    Good luck

If you are closing in on 37 and need to get into a covered position, go with IEA. If that is not an immediate concern, CBP has a higher journeyman grade and more opportunities within the agency. Depending on location, the overtime can be a consideration as well. If you are not in decent physical condition, IEA only requires participation in PT, while CBP has a minimum mile and one half run time and you will go through a challenging OC spray gpe. Both are good avenues to an 1811 position as CBP is losing Officers continually to ICE and other agencies.
    Best of luck,

    LT

Starting in Jan, IEAs will have pt standards and candidates will be required to pass and obstacle course. Also, currently we get the OC treatment as well. As for the journeyman grade, CBP has the advantage, but there are rumors that IEAs are gonna be bumped up to GS-11-12 journeman. But even if that does not happen we still get good overtime and AUO.
