I'm a new ICE IEA (in training) and have asked several of my supervisors about our badges and creds, no one has a difinitive asnswer. My question is why are we called 'agents' when our badges say 'officer' ?

Because you are Immigration Enforcement Agents therefore you are called agents but you aren't ICE Agents. As ICE already has "Agents", that is to say, REAL agents, 1811's, they can't also call you agents so you're classified as Officers.
Or maybe they just ran out of agent badges? :D
I know our new badges were originally supposed to have the U and S on either side of the DHS logo but the big wigs in charge complained that only agents are supposed to have that on their badges so they removed it from our design along with the colored center seal. They said the seal in color wouldn't hold up and would cost to much so our badges have a plain gold center seal which blends in with the background. I think it looks stupid but that's just me. Then I see that the agents have colored seals on their badges... apparently ICE can afford the coloring and CBP can't!!

Its gonna happen....so I will post it first
"Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!"
badges
Pre-ICE, there were some IEA's though not a lot. There were there to primarily assist the Special Agents. Pre-ICE there was such a thing as DEO's. Post-ICE DEO's were renamed IEA's and given some additional duties.
Up until the beginning of this fiscal year, there were still IEA's on the OI payroll. Now all IEA's are on DRO's payroll and assist DO's with the ACAP, as well as traditional DEO duties, such as transport.
AS to why they are called IEA's, but the badges say officer. BIG would bear a guess that Chewy's post, is not as far removed from the truth as possible. But what does BIG know, he can't even speak in the first person for God's sake. ;) :p

Ours don’t have a colored seal, which I thought looked cheesy anyway, but we do have the U and S on either side of the seal. Our pre-DHS badges were the same in that regard. I never heard any reasoning for it though.I know our new badges were originally supposed to have the U and S on either side of the DHS logo but the big wigs in charge complained that only agents are supposed to have that on their badges so they removed it from our design along with the colored center seal.
Doing what you've done, gets you what you got.
