One Step Closer USMS

Well ladies and Gents I passed the oral Interview and got my conditional offer of employment yesterday (five weeks later but hey it came). So now does anyone have a semi time frame as to how long it takes from here. I know there is no set time it depends on a few factors (background, psych eval, etc.....) I just wanted to get a rough estimate from someone who's been there done that. Thank you much

It is really impossible to say. The conditional offer thing is not a long tradition in the USMS. Most often people did not hear anything until they were offered a job.

From my interview to academy start date was about 8 months. The process was very different back then... a lot more applicants and hired as an 1811, straight-away. On the other end of things, during Shining Star, the entire process was often done in a matter of a few months. Then... you also need to consider that we are still in a continueing resoolution.

... so, as I first said, it is impossible to know. Sit back and be patient. Try not to get your feathers ruffled (such as your "5 weeks later" comment). It's the nature of the federal system. ...at least you are still in it!

FWIW, there is no psych eval in the USMS.

Also...you are in luck with the new system. You'll "automatically" get your 1811 after a few years.

For a time frame, a few guys i know just got through 082 training and it took 5 years to get on. i know that is most likely not the norm, but you could be in for quite a wait. I wouldnt complain about a 5 week waiting period to hear that you passed the interview. I know that they are no longer having 082 classes either, so I dont know if they will be slow to hire new guys since they are going to turn all of the current 082's into 1811's, or what the protocol will be. just my little bit of info, good luck.

Five years is NOT the norm and we will still be hiring 082s.

Hey guys Sorry about my 5 week comment I wasn't complaining, I know the Government Isnt the Fastest Moving place to get hired beleive me after 4 years in the Corps and now being in the guard I know all about hurry up and wait. I just wanted to say I didn't mean to offend anyone and I do realize that going Federal is worth the wait it has taken me 3 years to get to this point I can wait plenty more. That is news to me. When did the admin change to that system.

Very recently. They are in the process of an "automatic" progression to 1811 for the current 082s.

That is great news, I have a met a few 082 that definately deserve to get their "just desserts."
