You may want to message that Switchback guy. He is a US Marshall I think. May be worth shooting an email to him for a quicker response.

The cut-off for a lot of federal LE is 37. You have to retire at 57 and they want a good 20 years out of you!

BTW, Kris... there's only 1 "L" in U.S. Marshal. It used to be spelled with 2 "L"s. I don't know the reasoning in the change.
a little tidbit of history for ya!

They took off that "L" so it could fit on your forehead for the middle finger remark earlier!

    Drop one L

Oh Kris that is funny, dropping one "L" for the middle of the forehead , but I might remind you the USMS is the oldest LE agency in the FREE WORLD (AMERICA)

We might want to reserve that 'L" for a more deserving like oh I do not know the, agency that resembles:

    Fry Bread Inspectors
    Federal Bureau of Intimadition
    Full Blooded Indian
    Federal Bureau of Interpertation

"Marshal" probably comes from the old military rank "field marshal", which in some militaries was a very high rank. My guess is that since it was never used in the army in the United States, it was adopted for use as a law enforcement position. Seeing as how when the US Marshals Service was created 1789, it was the first federal law enforcement. US Marshals would've been the highest ranking law enforcement officers in their respective districts.

"Marshall" is a name (first or last). It may be possible that's a derivative of a last name of someone who was a marshal (kind of like how people w/ the last name "Smith" are sometime descendants of people who really were smiths, like blacksmiths, goldsmiths, metalsmiths, etc.).

At least that's what I could put together from 10 minutes of researching on the internet. But "marshal" and "marshall" have definitely been different for a long time.
