    Secret Service Hiring Help

Right now I'm several months from graduating and I'm about to turn in my initial paperwork for USSS SA and UD. I happened to run into a USSS recruiter today at a career fair on campus and apparently I impressed him enough that he said 'do not turn in your paperwork, but make an appointment to sit down with me after you graduate.' He said I was one of only two people he gave his card to today. So, my question is...do I turn in my paperwork anyways and call him when I graduate...or do i just wait until I graduate. My big concern is the timeline...if I wait until after I graduate, who knows how long it could take to get hired. However, he stated that they hire how and when they want and there's no reason that it has to take so long...Thoughts????

You're obviously eager to get your app in, but if you're not far off time-wise from graduating, why would you not follow his directions. He's offering to help you out, which you can choose to take advantage of or not, but if it were me, I'd do as he said. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to call him maybe a month or so out from graduation to give him a "heads-up" and a reminder of the one-on-one he offered.

    Grad.

Thanks Ros, I graduate in May so I'm eager to being processes. I'll be testing for ICE in January, so at least I'll feel like I'm moving. I think I'm going to go with what he offered...if he was that interested in me, there's no reason why I shouldn't follow him. Although, I will admit I feel like I'm putting all my secret service eggs in one basket.

If yoru that concerned, call him in a week. Explain your concerns to him and ask him why he wants you to wait. Also....don't stop applying anywhere else!

Were you planning on the Uniform Division?

I would definately call him and ask then. The recruiters are typically for SA positions, not UD. And being honest, if he is a SA recruiter, and tells you that being 21 and graduating he can get you in as a SA, be VERY skeptical! It is no secret that the average age of new hire agent is 28-35. There are rare exceptions. But a recruiter can't get you to pass an interview or TEA, he can only get you in the for interview.

I say call and voice your concern and ask for clarification!
