    CBP Officer question

I checked CASS today and it stated that everyhting except my drug screening is complete. My drug screeening is Wed. It states my background is complete yet I have never been contacted by an investigator. I have had Secret and TS clearances in the past. Does anyone have any input on this?

It will show complete, but the contact is still coming. I was seen by the investigator about 2 weeks after CASS showed complete.

    Good luck.

I was advised today that I qualified for the interim clearance and my packet was forwarded to the Scheduling and Training Unit. Has anyone who took the test in 2006 received an EOD yet?

I took the test back in 2003, got the packet for expidited EOD months ago, still no word. ICE called me, so rolled with them. There seems to be no method to the madness.

I had an interesting conversation with one of our training folks today. Come to find out we are bringing people on the job and sending them to the academy before their background checks are complete. Can someone please tell me the logic in that one? We spend all kinds of money to bring someone on board and send them to the academy only to find out there is something in their background that disqualifies them? No wonder I'm looking for another job.

    Newark or JFK

    Hi all,

I start the academy Jan 4th. I was hoping I can get input on the pros and cons for Newark and JFK. I read somewhere that trying decide between the two is like asking "Which would you prefer: Having your hand smashed by a hammer, or your foot run over by a forklift?" I am trying to find out (if any) which has a better chance of getting the morning shift, and which has more opportunity for overtime per year and what were the averages?

    Thank you.

Are you from there? Or are you a Lost Texan and Displaced Cackalackian like me and LT?

Those two ports have long running reputations for being imbedded with less than stellar mangagement. I have friends at both of them, but they don't mind since they are from the area, and its home to them. Expect culture shock and a reversal of what seems logical to you in getting a job accomplished.

Yes I'm from the NYC area. I heard both weren't so great. But any additional specific info can help sway a decision.

Page 2-2-1 of the NISPOM (National Industrial Security Program Operations Manual, applies to DoD, CIA, NRC & DOE) states that "Investigations conducted by a Federal agency shall not be duplicated by another Federal agency when those investigations are current within 5 years and meet the scope and standards for the level of PCL (personnel clearance) required". I'm not sure if DHS is a member of the NISP yet but I think they may be as of 2-2006. That would make any clearance you had in the military (DoD) or the above agencies valid with DHS as long as it was conducted IAW the above statement. It may not be worth bringing this to the attention of any investigator but it's from a valid sorce (the NISPOM). (NISPOM available on dss.mil or via google)
