    Recent NCIS Applicants

I applied during the September NCIS posting. I see now it looks like they will be doing monthly job hiring periods indefinately. Does anyone know how heavy they are hiring now and how long it usualy takes until you hear something after applying? Any others out there who just applied?

I applied April '05 and didn't hear anything until late August about the SA test (which I took in Sept. '05).

NCIS is a slow process, so get used to waiting (but from what I hear about the agency, good things come to those who wait).

I think females from other agencies and other country's government agencies get faster results.

I know this woman who transferred from the USSS after ticking off her boss and getting canned there. But then she got killed by a terrorist sniper, and a female Agent from Mossad, who happens to be their bosses daughter, was assigned to NCIS.

During all of that NCIS got a new female director.

Ohhhhh wait, we are talking about the TV show, right?

I've been kicking around the idea of sending in my paperwork to NCIS. A friend was hired about a year ago and he really likes it.

This is my first post here, so hello. I’ve been with NCIS for about four years now and can tell you they have been hiring like crazy, but that has also resulted in a lot of new hires waiting to go to CITP and SABTP. They have enough right now to send to FLETC for the next two years. As for the process, it takes anywhere from a year to three years, so you need to have patience. I would keep on your recruiter to keep you updated as to testing dates, board dates, and whatever else you may need. Let me know if you have any other questions. What’s your location?

I sent my application online and I haven't any contact with a recruiter yet. I'm in the Raleigh, NC area.

The online application process is brand new, so I'm betting it hasn't been long since you submitted your app. I applied in April '05, and didn't hear anything back until around late August/early September. Be patient, as you'll hear one way or another soon enough.

    The result

Well, I heard back today. Not good:

A careful review of your application for employment as a Special Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service has been completed. Unfortunately, I must inform you that your application was not selected for further processing.

This decision should not be construed as reflecting adversely upon you in any way, but instead an indication of the competition level for the few vacancies available within the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. I regret a more favorable action could not be taken with respect to your application.

Your interest in the Naval Criminal Investigative Service is certainly appreciated, and I wish you every success in achieving your future career endeavors.

    Sincerely,

Chief, Personnel Operations and Services Department Naval Criminal Investigative Service

I got one of those shortly after applying in April 2004. I finished my MS, got a job in management and a part-time gig in LE, and applied again a year later.

Point here is to build your resume up more than it is (especially in line with the needs of NCIS, like IT, intel, foreign language, accounting, advanced degree, etc.), and apply again. Don't let it get you down.

I have a similiar letter from the Secret Service from 10 years ago. I'm an 1811 with a separate agency, and every now and then I will take out the USSS letter to reminise. I remember feeling low when I received it. But it was a good thing. I'm much happier at my agency then with the USSS.

    Keep applying...
Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

Try getting an offer and then having to turn it down

Let's hope that thing I sent you a PM about turns out.

Now that NCIS is online I guess I'm going to throw my application in.

Just had my interview with NCIS today I had a good feeling with everything. The interview was formal but friendly. I practiced the basic interview questions and that really helped a lot. Two of the SA in the panel were former Marines so that was a plus at least in my eyes since I’m a Marine too. But let’s see what happens I'll let you guys no whenever I here a status change.

    Just joined the forum...

In last stages with NCIS, just waiting for my application package to be sent to HQ. It was already sent once, but they called my case agent and told him to 1) find my drug screening or do another one (I found it...on my previous case agent's desk across the country) and 2) stalk my new neighbors even though I haven't lived at my current location for six months. I think that's all completed, so hopefully it's on its way back to HQ.

    For reference, my timeline:

    Dec 05 - apply
    Feb 06 - testing
    March 06 - one-on-one informational interview
    May 06 - panel interview
    August 06 - BI began
    Oct 06 - medical exam
    Dec 1, 2006 - package @ HQ ??

Waiting is seriously the worst part!!
