    U.S. capitol police

i recently took there written exam and passed, I was wondering if someone on the board has any info on how is it like to work for this agency. Are they currently hiring many officers at this time. Overall what is your opinion on the agency. hopefully there is a capitol police officer roaming on the board.

I noted in one of your previous postings that you make more as a Park Policeman than as a Lawyer. At the time I was a probationary Deputy Sheriff, I made more than a Special Agent for the FBI (circa 1986) -- has the GS pay increased that much? I was checking out the pay for such jobs as Revenue Agent for the IRS - I can't see how anyone in the Bay Area could make a living at the job (something like 28-40K a year...)

WOW! Do you have any phone numbers for me for these people?? LOL j/k

I love that aspect of my job. OT, baby!!! I didn't work that much OT last year but I was able to make quite a nice pile over and above my base pay.

Hey DC Law, in your opinion, how do you like working as a LEO in the DC area? I'm asking because I too am interested in the Capitol Police. LEO positions are few & far between here in Calif. because of the state economy & all. Relocating across the country would be a big move for me. Also, can an officer really transfer to a specialty unit after only 1-2 years in the field like the Capitol PD website says? If so, how hard is that? (They can't post you to a metal detector for 25 years can they?)

    Hey all,
Had to chime in. I have a friend that is part of the US Capitol Police. He has only been employed for about 10 months and he transfered from uniform to protection detail already. So it also depends on the circumstances. The US Capitol police have actually lost alot of people from what he had said, so right now it is easy to get into the specialty assignments.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Anybody else got the 4-1-1 on the Capitol Police? Is logan32's friend the exception to the rule? Don't mean to beat a dead horse but I'm sure I'm not the only who wants to know...hmmm, maybe I should apply to the Park Police instead :-)

    us capitol police

I applied to the US capitol police in May 2003. I just finished my poly/psych/and medical in mid-september.
I also just got word from my investigator that something would be in the mail on monday October 20,2003.
    I hope it's good.

I actually have a few questions for you and was hoping that you could help me out. I am looking into taking the test next month. Did you find it rather easy and was there some kind of study guide that you used for preparation. After you took the test, how long did it take to find out if you passed? And what happened next.

I took the test last week. I'd say it can/may be "somewhat "difficult if you have no prior LEO experience. But if you don't don't sweat it, just take your time. It is relatively simple. They give you 1.5 hours--plenty of time! Two days later, you can call recruiting & ask if you passed or failed. They can't tell you specific test results over the phone.

How far back would they like you to go on the appliation. Since I granduated from Highschool I've been through 4-5 jobs up until now. I am 24 years old. I hated one of the jobs because of a host of reasons and never should up after a month of being there. Would that look bad and should I not apply. I left notices at other jobs. Do they go back and talk to supervisors or do they verify dates with the HR department? The only thing I am worried about is work history. How worried should I be?

Pre-employment polygraph examinations for law enforcement agencies include a mix of relevant, irrelevant, and so-called "control" questions. You'll find these explained, along with typical examples, in Chapter 3 of The Lie Behind the Lie Detector.
