    ATF Industry Operations Investigator

Just wanted to let everyone know that I received my Notification Letter for the postion of ATF Industry Operations Investigator.

"We have reviewed your application and found you qualified for the position listed above. Your name has been referred to the employing agency for consideration."

This was announced from 10-3-05 to 11-3-05 and I took the Administrative Careers With America Exam in early December 2005. Anyone else notified or have comments about the position?

It's an 1801 compliance investigator position.

No, it isn't a Special Agent position, but it does have a promotion potential to a GS-12. From reading the information on ATF's website, the Industry Operations Investigator position seems to be a regulatory position. If any IOI's are reading this, feel free to comment on the position, as I'd like as much information as I can get.

The position is the same as the old Inspector position. You would be conducting firearms and explosive licensee inspections-new license and yearly compliance inspections. Also work with the S/As on gun dealer theft/loss investigations, firearms trafficking cases, just to name few of the duties. Just no gun and no LEAP.

Pat- do you know what office you could be going too?

I have a good friend who works out of the Indianapolis office. He really enjoys the work and loves going to work everyday. They will either assign you a car or pay milage, but there are some limitations on taking the vehicle home. He volunteers for alot of assignments away from his duty station but I don't think it's required.

You go down to Glynco for training, but I can't remember off hand how long. It's like 7-10 weeks??? He enjoyed the training though. He had a uniformed police background so this job required him to give up the gunbelt, but he has no regrets at all.

I think you'll enjoy the work if you get the job. By the way, I recall him saying the position can go as high as a GS-13 if you sign a mobility agreement. Not sure all the details though.

JBT, no I don't know what office I'll be going to if I get the position. I think I am still in the extreme early stages of the process since all I have done is applied, took the written test, and been notified that I passed the written test. We'll see what happens though. I am also in the mix for an ATF SA position and an ICE IEA position, and I think they are both more along the lines of what I want to do right now. But I would definitely accept an IOI position with ATF if the offer came in.

Also, the location posted on the Announcement was Nationwide, and I don't ever remember selecting a specific location.
