    Phase 3

There is going to be a phase 3 comming soon. The service does not want us too be 1811s becasue it would be a big problem due to everyone leaving if we were 1811s. The FAM service will be sending us to a one week class in Atlantic City for a very condensened investigations class. I am not sure why because we do not do any investigations at all. I guess the one week class could be good but what is the point. I have been flying for 4 1/2 years and every time I had something happen the FBI was at the gate when I landed. The FBI has the lead on all civial aviation so I do not see the point and it will be a total waist of money for the yax payers. I am looking forward to the week off from flying. So I guess after phase 3 I will be a new series, 1801-11?

Just a thought, but even if FAMs are not actively performing investigative duties, having a knowledge of them can help you to perform actions properly for those doing the investigation. I recently went to a 3-day seminar on UC narcotics investigations, and I currently work patrol. The info I learned was still good info, and even taught me how to try a few things differently when on patrol to help our narc investigators make their cases.

Plus, this seems to be a step in the right direction for FAMs going 1811. I'm certainly not saying it will happen, but if it does, it would seem that they would want to orient current FAMs on the investigative processes before dishing out the big bucks to send them to CITP at FLETC.

Just a guess from an outsider, though.

    Psychological Screening

Well, tonight I completed my psychological screening with the psychologist. Everything went well and he advised me that there was nothing negative that he was going to place in his report. He said that he was required to fax his preliminary report to D.C. within 24 hours, and was required to mail his full report to D.C. within 3 days.

Does anyone have a general time frame from completing the psych screening till getting the call for the PTA?

Anyone else hear anything about classes or new hires?

When I went through phase two back in december/january 05-06, investigations/report writing was heavily emphisized.

What is the approximate starting pay?

Here's a question for the current FAMS, mainly those who've been hired fairly recently: What is the starting pay while training? I know that everyone makes something different but I just wanted to get an idea. Throughout the entire process pay has not been directly discussed. I was only aware of the pay ranges and FAA payscale for locality purposes. Any insight would be great!

Same as above. Most of our "hires" with no LE experience were are rock bottom G.

Everyoen I was hired with at my office was hired as a G. Even guys with prior fed experience.

    I had:
    1) About 1 year state police, 4 years city police.
    2) Had solid investigative experienbce (what they want!!!) in a detetctive unit.
    3) Bachelors....enrolled in a combo law degree/grad program for psychology (about 1/8 done).
    I started at very high....near end G.

    Other guys:
    Chef...bacheors.....no LE.....$36,400
    Military (4 years).....bacehlors.....no LE......$42,000
    Military (12 years)...private sector Ops (Blackhawnk).....bachelors....$46,000
    Firefighter with arson INVESTIGATORS training......bachelors.....$53,000.
    NYPD 6 years (patrol)......bachelors.....$46,000
    Lawyer (newbie)....JD Degree......no LE....$47,000

So take your base pay......add locality (22.97% for NY & 17.5% for DC)...then add 25% for LEAP.

    NY Base $36,400: $36,400 + $8361 = $44,761 + 11,190 = $55,951
    DC Base $36,400: $36,400 + $6370 = $42,770 + 10,692 = $53,462
    or
    NY Base:$56,400: $56,400 + 12955 = $69355 +17338 = $86,693
    DC Base:$56,400: $56,400 + 9870 = $66270 + 16567 = $82,837

Then add in your holiday pay and your night diff (10%) and Sunday Pay (10%). After that...add in your per diem money. For most of the US, evey day your away, you get about $48 tax free. And your mileage is paid on all overnighst to/fom the airport. So an overnight is worth about $96 plus mileage...all tax free!!! Plus, in some cases, mileage to/from the airport for regualr days are paid, depending where you live and distance to the airport compared to distance to the office, etc...

Then you get 8% after 12 month on your base.....if you don't get in trouble.
And another 8% after 24 months on yoru base.....if you don't get in trouble.

And off course...the yearly January raise Congress votes itself. That increases your base pay and locality. It is minor (2-3%), but when your base goes up 2%...you locality increases a little and your LEAP increases!!! All means more money!

    Current Fam

Who ever told you that you would be getting 8% raises every 12 months is lying. Here is the real deal. Every office gives 2% percent of employees a 3% percent raise evey year. So that is like 2 FAMS. I have been a I band for 2 years with no write ups of any kind and I have not received a raise. So wishfull thinking on 8% percent raises for all new hires evey year. Oh and for you guys who are hired at a low G band and another guy gets a high G band is no big deal. Once you make I band then both guys will be making the same salary.

It is not evey 12 months if you read teh post. It is after 12 months...then at teh 24 mark. We got it in writing!!!! It is the bump from G to H and H to I. Due to where some of us started, teh overlap is well passed. Those in that situation all got it in writing on our employment offer.

Still better than my old agency!

    Fams Question?

Ok, after taking my interview, psych, and Drug test about 17 days ago, I received an email yesterday to schedule my medical appt with a Doctor within 5 days through the designated number provided.

My question is the email came in yesterday, but the letter is dated May 28th, will this be a problem when I call monday? Also, if I am on a temporarily work assignment in a different state, will they accommodate to this ? I noticed HQ for FAMS is 15 mins from where I currently am, so I may have to make a stop over there.

    Thanks
