My brother works for the Broward Co. SD (Ft Lauderdale is in Broward)... when I was looking at applying to Ft. Lauderdale PD, he warned me that the city was broke, and to look elsewhere.

They were doing things like sending Officers home without pay for a day, from what he said it was happening with scary frequency, like once a week. There were other things that I just thought was a terrible way to treat employees. This was about a year ago, so things might have changed. Look into Broward Co SD, they are a very good company, if you can get over the cost of living in the area...

TRY BOCA RATON PD. They are about 20 short. They start at $42,000 and retire in only 20 years. They get 3.5 percent for every year. That is 70 percent in only 20 years. My cousin works there and I would go over there if I could. Boca Raton is only 15 minutes north of Ft. Lauderdale.

The Wheels are turning once more...

OK...so this morning I got a call to schedule my psychological evaluation with the psychologist. So even though things have been quiet for a little while hopefully they will be picking up once more.

All I seem to have left in this process is this evaluation and the PTA and then the process is complete. Then it would seem that I get to sit and wait for something that may never actually come. But fingers are crossed!

    Anyone else have any news?

    one more thing...

I'm not sure if I asked this before...

I live right outside of Atlantic City, NJ and about 5 minutes from the FAMS training facilities, would i have to live there or could i stay with relatives in the area?

    Thanks.

FAMS put us up in hotels, as there are no residential facilities at the ACY training facility. As far as staying with relatives, I would doubt it, except for weekends or extreme circumstances

When I was there for Phase 2 back in the day we checked in to the hotel but could stay where ever you wanted. You just had to be ready in front of the hotel to get in the vans in the morning.

Yes, Ft Lauderdale was going through some financial issues a few years ago but seem to be on the upswing now. I have been hired since Dec '05 and just started in April because I was waiting on the FAMS. They offered me a starting salary in the mid 50's and I'll be near 60 by Oct '06 and I haven't even looked at my increases for next year.

Well, I was supposed to do the PTA today but I decided to withdraw from consideration. I know, crazy right?! I just couldn't wait any longer without jeopardizing the one sure job that I had for the hope and prayer of the FAM offer. There must be a class starting soon because the security assistant wanted me to take off work to take the test due to scheduling. He insisted, which is the first time in this process that anyone has wanted to move FAST! I can't belive that I had been waiting almost a full year for an offer and now its like "hurry up, we need to get this done"-lol. I indicated that I would most likely re-apply when the Miami field office opens up (i know, fat chance!) because I just can't see paying to relocate again this soon, not to mention pay the penalty for breaking my lease. I just want to say good luck and its coming soon to all of my fellow FAMS-to-be.

By the way, I never asked the SA, but what is the approximate starting salary for a FAM less the COLA adjustment? I hear its mid 50's. If its in the 60's I'll kick my own ***!-lol

Does anyone know if medical examinations or BI's will transfer from one agency to another? I am wondering because I have finished the BP medical and my background is pending. However, I am also in the process with FAM and wondering if my BP medical and BI would transfer. I am guessing no, but figured I would ask. Anything to maybe speed up the process.... Thanks

I have no idea who does the BP's BI. If it is OPM...then yes...it can be used again.

As for the medical...NO! It can't be transferred. The FAMS give you a FAA medical exam...same one pilots get. A lit different than what the BP does.

I just noticed that on 911's forum, a FAM app. just got the call today that he will be starting in DC on June 25th. So they are still filling the July class. Anyone here been hearing anything?

Yeah, that guy has been in a very similar timeline as myself. I actually got a call today, but it was to ask for my transcript so they could send my file to the final board. I cant wait to get my transcript so I can hear something too! Not sure if I want to go to DC though, I think I'd prefer ny at this point. Although I obviously will take either
