My brother works for the Broward Co. SD (Ft Lauderdale is in Broward)... when I was looking at applying to Ft. Lauderdale PD, he warned me that the city was broke, and to look elsewhere.
They were doing things like sending Officers home without pay for a day, from what he said it was happening with scary frequency, like once a week. There were other things that I just thought was a terrible way to treat employees. This was about a year ago, so things might have changed. Look into Broward Co SD, they are a very good company, if you can get over the cost of living in the area...
