First off...Thanks Don, for the information.

Second, I have my panel interview and psych testing tomorrow morning. Does anyone who has been through this part of the process know if they are going to be doing the drug testing tomorrow also? The reason I'm asking is because last Wednesday I had minor oral surgery and they had me on prescription pain killers and antibiotics. I am off the pain killers but still finishing up the antibiotics. If I am going to take the drug test tomorrow should I bring in the prescription cards from the meds and let them know that I am/was on these meds only last week?

    Thanks.

    Panel, Drug Screening, and Psych.

Well, this morning I had my panel interview, which went extremely well. Then I had the drug screening portion and then finished the day with the 3 hour long psych tests. Overall the day was very productive and all the FAMS were very nice and suppotive.

So now this is what my FAM time line is looking like...

    Applied: 11/05
    Conditional Offer: 1/06
    Filled out B.I.: 2/06
    Physical Examination: 3/06
    Panel Interview: 5/06
    Drug Screening: 5/06
    Written Psych. Tests: 5/06

So I guess I'm still waiting on the visit with the psychologist and the PTA. Things seem to be looking up.
Any news from anyone else in the FAM applicant process?

Good luck and start checking to see were you are going to live in D.C. or N.Y. The cost of living is out of control. And forget about trying to transfer because it is not going to happen. We have been here since 01 and 02 and we are still trying to get transfers. Word has it that if they do allow transfers that it will be based on your hire date, so that puts all th new hires in the desert.

Intheaircop, I probably missed this somewhere back in the boards but where are you stationed? If you are stationed in NYC or DC any living area suggestions? Thanks for your good wishes. Hope things keep moving smoothly for me.

Yes, Avue sent me two emails within a few weeks of each other, with one coming today. They wanted me to re-certify my app I guess since I applied in July of 2005. All that remains for me is the PTA and hopefully I'll be getting an offer soon. I tell you, this process has been sloooooooooooow! I applied for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department at the same time and they were done and offering me the job by December '05. Now I have to decide if I want to relocate from sunny South Florida to either DC (yuck) or NYC (double-yuck) after leaving Detroit. I like municipal policing but the federal gig just has an appeal that I just can't shake. Guess I like the thought of being able to wear plain clothes as opposed to a duty belt, boots, radio, etc.

The sticking point for me now is mainly centered on the retirement plan (Ft Lauderdale has a 20yr retirement at over 60% of your pay and at 23yrs you get 83%). Does anyone know where I can find out more info on the Law Enforcement Retirement System?

The Fed numbers aren't as high! You looking at 34% after 20 years.

Whoa! That's terrible...I guess you have to get into the Thrift account or invest in deferred compensation if you want a decent pension with the Feds...I still can't believe how low that number is. It looks like you guys have a 1.1% multiplier or something. The FAMS is starting to look less viable. Comnpared to Detroit PD I wouldn't have thought twice about leaving but Fort Lauderdale PD is really progressive when it comes to fringes and pension.

    psychologist

I was wondering if anyone who has already met with a psychologist could tell me how they were notified of the apt. All I have left is the psychologist meeting and the PTA so if anyone could let me know how they are notifying people for each I would appreciate it. Also what is the general order of these two steps? If there even is one. Thanks guys!

They called me and said, "Call our psychologist Dr.____________ at (555) 555-5555 and make an appointment." I did...and he gave me a list of dates and times.....alll of which were on Sunday (it was 2pm on Friday), and started at 0700 and went to 2313.
