    New to the forum

Hey guys, I'm a senior at Clayton State University in Morrow, GA about to graduate with a bachelor degree in Fall 07. I am originally from Chantilly, VA and would like to move back to the DC area so I want to apply to FAMS after I graduate. The current announcement is set to close in late June, so I am wondering if I should apply now and go through the application process before I graduate. Will the process be long enough for me to get away with it? or should I just apply after I obtain my degree and hope that FAMS is still hiring. Also if I want to be in DC, what are the chances I get it.

I just wanted to introduce myself before I ask some questions.

Do you guys suggest any other Fed LE opportunities in the DC area?

Yes, I would apply now. The application process will take more than enough time for your to finish your degree before you finish the application process. Just fill out the application, what's the worst that can happen, they say no? Also if you put DC on your application and then they end up offering you the job the chances of you getting DC are pretty good, it's still considered a hard to fill office.

    Good Luck!

No other life experience other than college (just turned 22) and my degree is a unique one to my school, it's a Bachelor of Science in Integrative Studies with a concentration in Criminal Justice and Political Science. My upper level courses consist of Criminal Justice, Political Science, and Business courses. I'm also getting a minor in Political Science just to have that concrete. I know it's a long shot because I have no LE experience but I'm going to give it a shot anyways.

Thanks for the reply.....I was reading this thread religiously for an hour or two going through every post and I want to congratulate you for your accomplishment and I hope I'm in your shoes someday. If they say no, is there a chance I can apply again? How long would I have to wait in order to reapply? Thank you again Ecko.

Hey you CAN be in my shoes. I finished college, I applied while I was still in college, and was hired. Don't let anyone tell you that not having any law enforcement experience will keep you out of the pool of hired applicants. about 50% of the people in my training class had no LE experience. If you need any other assistance PM me. I check this often.

    Good luck!

I bet that percentage goes down when you look at military experience. I'd say my academy class (over a year ago) only had about 5-10% of no LE or no military folks

Ah, you are correct. Let me think, people in my class that I can think of, without any LE experience or military would probably be...15 people. I stand corrected. But you have to admit, it's not impossible.

Of those 15, how many were over 30 and married with kids?

Suprisingly, not many. Of those 15 I would say 10 were around my age and right out of college.

Hey Patriot72, I remember reading (either here or some other board) that you got the "thanks but no thanks" letter via email. Did you ever call AVUE and/or your FO to find out what that was all about? I hope it was a mistake man because I think deep down all of us on these boards are pulling for each other.

    Ecko,

Have you heard anything in your FO lately about hiring? If there is going to be a class in June when should the calls go out? Even a guess is welcome at this point. :p
