Um, did I just get called an old fart??????
LoL... SCUBA, the 6c FLE retirement program prevents those who are older than 37 (or in your case will be over 37 by the time you're able to be hired) from obtaining 6c-covered positions (which includes the FAMs position). Your credentials from CID are quite impressive, so you may wish to pursue avenues at the state investigative level (if you wish to remain a criminal investigator).Originally Posted by SCUBA32

Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice.
My second home is Crystal City in D.C. The bar tenders know me by my first name. I walk in and they say "Hey FAM, how was the DC9 you just flew in today?" I reply, "Well, the damn wing had dock tape on it because NorthWest airlines is not paying their people and and are outsourcing their work in Hati."

I have the same thing in San Francisco! I was thinking about getting a wife out there and a dog. Maybe a kid too. Figure I could have the bets of both worlds.Originally Posted by intheaircop2

Sometimes I think I sleep better in San Francisco's hotels than I do in my bed at home. Good per diem:DOriginally Posted by Joeyd6
Got the call this afternoon that I will be having my Panel Interview and Psych tests this coming Tuesday morning at 8am.
This is the first I have heard anything from the FAMS in aprox. a month and a half.
Can any of the FAMs on here shed any light on what the Physical tests are like in Artesia? My apologies if this has been covered before and I missed it.
Hope things are continuing to move for the other FAMS applicants on here as well.
Oh and since I am going to be having my panel in a few days does anyone have any tips for that? When I was in the running for the DEA SA positions I breezed through the panel interview...should I be expecting much of the same with the FAMS?
Thanks again.

Do not sweat the interview, you will do fine. And the PT test is a joke. All you have to do is run 1 1/2 mile, push ups, pull ups, and sit ups. Only a fat as_ could not make it through the academy.
In the academy does the running increase as the time passes? I know that in some of the other academies you might start at a mile and a half and then work up to say 5 or 6 miles as the weeks progress. Does this happen with the FAMS?
yes, this does happen, just like thatOriginally Posted by EndlessEcko
And if you get in, do yourself one HUGE thing:
buy a GOOD pair of TRAIL runnning sneakers!
You run on a dirt trail loaded with rocks! If you buy regular running sneakers....expect shin splints and foot pain!

yeah, I went through a good pair of running shoes, then bought a pair of trail runners, which were much betterOriginally Posted by Joeyd6
Thanks for the bit of advice on the TRAIL running sneakers. I have gotten shin splints in the past and I would certainly like to avoid then if I get there. Much appreciated.
New News or at least some rumors that are juicy. My boss just came back from DC last week after meeting with the Big Giant Head and he passed on some of the following:
Apparently there are going to be signifigant changes in the FAMS under the new Director for life. There have been shuffles of bosses and new policies flying off of the presses like every other day. For once most of them I even agree with. Brown, the new uberboss, has instituted a gazillion advisory groups and hired the geeks of MIT to come up with a new whiz bang scheduling program due out in FY07.
Some of the hiring hold up is probably coming from up top but they are committed to filling NY and DC with flocks of new FAMlings. Classes are ongoing and some of the old guys who missed Phase 2 the first time are being sent along with the FAMlings for the ride.
If you were hoping for that juicy Orlando office I hate to break it to you but the new station of choice transfer rules are probably going to go by entry on duty date. This means that those working from 01 and 02 are going to be 4 years ahead in move preference for the station of choice transfers.
This info is still in the "it should happen soon" stage and not the "tomorrow is the day" stage so take that into account. I was told to expect new badges and creds in a couple of months approximately a year ago. Still no new stuff. The G moves slow but like a hippo once it gets up to speed it moves pretty quick so be patient. Any new poop and I will pass it on. Just keep in mind I am not a boss, underboss, assistant to the underboss, barber to the assistant to the underboss or anything even close. I'm just a plain ole FAM who keeps his ear to the ground so my info is not gospel.
Cheers,
Don
