All I know about the FAM's is that they leave a thick layer of .357 Sig nickle-plated brass on our range when they come out to practice - Man that looks like fun! I'm gonna have to buy me a .357 SIg just to take full advantage of all the priemum brass the leave :D

Its basically just about how you should train for the PTA
Yup, that's it!
So what do you think about it intheaircop? Anything laughable?
More than I got when I was hired! Overall though...not a bad general reference tool.

Do not sweat it guys. Yes it seems your 14 week class is going to be a bit longer than the one I had to go through. i guess maybe it is 14 weeks because most of the new guys getting on do not have police background. Just about every guy in my class was a cop of some kind when they got hired. Do not let the 14 week class brain wash you. Once you get on you will see that the job is no problem. The PT test may be a pass fail thing in the 14 week class but once you get to your office the PT test that is given every 3 months is not pass or fail. We just have to give it a try so go firgure. The PPC is no big deal.
We also had to go through a bunch of ATPC/ATP/TPC training at Phase II. While it was not required to pass, I took it seriously, and think I'm a better shot because of it.Originally Posted by intheaircop2
ATPC/ATP/TPC training?
what is this? (assuming it is not Secret Squirrel Information-SSI)
thanks
Its a more advanced firearms course of fire. The name constantly changes, hence the multiple acronyms. Its much more of a rapid/move and shoot/multiple target course. Its pretty much tailor made for FAMSOriginally Posted by machina
I hate to brag but i usualy shoot a 299-300 on the PPC. And I shot a perpect score on the ATPC. The shooting is no sweat. I just wish they made the shooting a bit harder to keep our job. I mean all the shooting we do and the only one we have to pass to fly is the PPC, what a joke. I could not believe it when I was talking to an instructor from SAIC and they told me that most of the FAMs are failing the ATPC! What are they paying us for. All we do is shoot for a living. We should be held to a higher standered then what we are now. If they made the ATPC the requriement for all current FAMs i think we would lose more than 60 percent of the current FAMs we have now. When I was in phase one and the TPC was a pass or fail, we had 30 percent of my class fail and they were sent home. After the agency saw how many students were failing the TPC they had to drop it so they could fill the planes.
PPC (pratical pistol coarse)
ATPC (aircraft tatical pistol coarse)
TPC (tactical pistol coarse) 'This we no longer shoot because it is way hard!"
That's crazy...i wonder why they even give it to you after you get the job. Im a HUGE fan of annual PT tests, with some type of reward and punishment contingent upon passing or failing.Originally Posted by intheaircop2
Nothing makes since here in the FAM service. They make sound like we are the cream of the crop when it comes to law enforcement. We are no better then anyother police department. I find it amusing when I hear or read something about us and it reads as if we are the best of the best in law enforcement. I can tell you this, we are not the best. We are just like plain clothes cops.
(I can't spell)
I would definately consider the FAM service as the bearer of some great shots, given that even the "bad" shots are held to a higher standard than most other LE agencies.Originally Posted by intheaircop2

YES I AGREE. The ATPS should replace the PPC.
I agree! I did pass the ATPS or whatever they call it. Missed one shot. When I first saw the course...I said "No way!" When it came down the last week to taking it...I was very happy! I think it is not only more realistic to the job, but what could happen off duty.
Also impressed with the FLETC shooting that had us shooting everything but the qual (standing/kneeling/barricade). Won't go into details due to OPSEC, but some of the stuff we did, I never saw at the FHP or NYPD. But it was 100% real world!
