    fams

I'm in the same position as you are, from what i heard from a current fam, it can take as long as 1 yar or more. As for the job it self, youre gone all the time and it's a job for single people, or if your kids are grown up a bit. Again thats just from what i've been told, others may have different feedback.

We can not say how many Air Marshals are currently employed, we try to keep the number out of the public to keep the bad guys guessing.

If you have a 2 year old and you get hired you will never see her again. We fly all the time and are in hotels. I have small kids and I know. The money is great here but the family will not see you as much. So think hard before sign up.

    fam timeline

Do fams have to take a pre employment polygraph and do they have to take some kind of exam (sivil service)?. I keep getting conflicting stories. Also what is the average timeline for the clearance, and do fams take ci polys?

Unless something has changed, no poly. I do believe there is a logical reasoning type exam they now give. The test was recently added. Clearence can take as little as a month to many, it all depends on the individual being investigated and the BI investigators workload.

There is a centrifuge test just like NASA has though :D There is also the test from "Spies Like Us" where they drop you into a forest full of Ninjas.
Seriously...no poly. No exam. Only a panel interview, medical, drug screen, PT, TS background check...unless something has changed since last week. Clearances right now are waaaay behind...7 years on and just did my 5 year refresher if that gives you an idea. The initial should be a little quicker but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Still quiet on this end too. Beyond the simple e-mail saying, thanks-got your app-we'll let you know, I haven't heard anything. Hopefully something starts rollin' soon.

good luck to everyone else in the same boat.

I'm in NYC. Southwest offices would be Houston, Las Vegas, Phoenix...I think we have an office in Phoenix. HaHa.

When you've completed training you will graduate ACY and then go to your field office for some last minute in-house paperwork and such.
