try tsa.gov
They handle most of the jobs, the exact link I don't have.
It's getting harder. I signed on in Aug 2002 when they were still pretty new. I used the position to get into Federal service to transition to Federal law enforcement.Originally Posted by JLAT95
TSA is cutting back and there is a bill on the table that would let the airports go private. Many screeners would have to take pay cuts and some would lose their jobs (I imagine)
In my opinion, now is a good time to be getting out of the TSA, not into it.

I took all the tests and got hired, but turned the job down (stupid stupid stupid)... The tests arent that hard, just use your common sense and dont try to BS your way through it.

Rest in peace.
At the time I applied they were only interviewing for part timers...they then wanted me to go to Detroit, or somewhere, for 6 weeks training??!! Unfortunately my day job wasn't cool with that. Besides your probably stuck collecting toe nail clippers all day long. :eek:Originally Posted by LaceyExplorer

As a current Transportation Screener, I can tell you, if your interested in protecting the public, seek it at a local level. I've been here 2 yrs. 3 months. The job itself is very repititious and after a couple of years you'll look for advancement, but there is not much. Your options are Lead screener, Supervisor or Screening Manager. The promotions are very competitive and usually go to females or minorities. They changed classifacation to an officer from a screener, in hopes to lure some younger screeners to FAMS, the cut off age is 37. I also have heard about privatization. I think with the current administration, TSA won't change much. Kip Hawley, seems to be helping the screeners more than any of the other 6 month directors, he's here to stay. Good benefits but the salary and yearly increases are low. 26,500 to start with locality pay and 3.0 -4.0 annualy. I am currently seeking employment with my local county sheriff. I went on Friday for my panel interview, next I hope would be a conditional offer. Law enforcement is a career, were as TSA is just a job. I'm still young enough with at least 20 years ahead of me.
Cutoff age for FAMS is 37......there is no age limit for Transportation Screener Officers.....Originally Posted by Tbone

I was actually considering a supervisory position with TSA before I got out of the military around the time frame they were in a hiring frinzy. I filled out an online resume, complete with a Top Secret clearance that's active until 2008, and never got a phone call. They probably labeled me over qualified and figured I wouldn't be happy doing that sort of work. However, the pay increases as a supervisor over the years was what I was interested in. Hind sight though, it would have been repetitious work and I would've grown bored.Originally Posted by JLAT95
On a side note, I've always believed that TSA was just a bandaid to help heal the effects of 9-11. It was a good move for the federal administration to create a airport bulldog and get out all the third country immigrants that would rather drink coffee and socialize than check you for weapons. TSA should just provide a federal security standard for all the airports to follow.

I reply to Bearcat06, Let me a liitle more specific. The FAMS (Federal Air Marshall) coutoff age is 37 yrs old., TSA screeners were given up the age of 40 if they were a hired by their 37 birthday, as an incentive for sceeners to inlist. For TSA screeners, there is no cut off age as long as you can pass their physical. The Physical Ability Test Is A joke, Run Around Some Cones With Different Weighted Suitcases. The airport I work, most of the screeners are semi-retired or close to it, collecting something from somewhere else and waiting to get vested, then there out.
trust me, as a former tsa, tsa is a joke. if you are looking for a career in law enforcement, tsa is not the place. it's a whole mess, when i first started almost 3 years ago, it seemed like the real deal; the seriousness, it was all there.
now it is like a high school with young kids doing the security and older men sitting by the exits.
this job is recommeded for 18 year olds to 21 or retired ex cops, etc.. 50+
i'm glad i got out of there, i couldn't take it no more.
I agree that TSA is a good way to stop the clock for a couple of years if you are approaching your 37th birthday while waiting for that nice 6c position to come through. It is a good stepping stone plus when you finally secure your nice 6c spot with the gov you can bring along the leave time you accumulated at TSA while you were waiting to be called. It also gives you a taste of working for the Gov so you can see if you like it.
TSA Screeners/Officers is not a 6c position.........Originally Posted by NYLSC

You can not stop the clock on the age limit for a 6c postion unless it is a 6c covered postion. I hope you do not think becoming a TSA screener will stop the clock to get in a 6c postion because you are 100 percent WRONG!
Ditto. If you want to stop the clock, go for Bureau of Prisons (Boppers). It seems to be a popular route...
