Advice for writing Federal law enforcement grants

Hey all, i'm signing on with a small town department and will have plenty of on duty free time, anyone have any advice in how to find and write a grant for police money?

    Thanks in advance,

I once wrote a successful federal grant for $450,000. The only advice I was given before writing it was that, "They don't read the applications, they weigh them." :D

In other words, don't use one word where three will do.

You just got hired and they want you to write a federal grant. Man, talk about trial by fire.
Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

Naw like i said i get a lot of free time to set up my own programs and do my own thing, i figure i could write one or two a year, if i get one cool if not i wouldn't have been doing anything anyway...first year maybe try to get a grant for a K-9 Program, and a better patrol vehicle...i think the town is going to buy us a new vehicle within the next few years but if i get the gov'mt to pay for one i could easily talk them into dropping half of the vehicle cost into another police program.
