? Are u saying with authority that you will only have one Marriage? Because I'm with you brother I feel the same way, but the statistics do indicate the stress level of the job, and with regular LEOs I've read 75%. I could see lower/higher/the same with FLEO's, I jsut don't know.
I'm on my third .... but this one will last forever.![]()
A fellow cop I know spoke to me after my second divorce. He told me that if I ever got married again to choose carefully.
He said, "If you get divorced three times you've got to become a homosexual. It's the rule. You will have demonstrated that you can't live with women." He said it so 'deadpan' that I nearly spit soda out of my nose.
I don't think it's really a 'rule' ........ but I'm not taking any chances :D

That sucks, I was so freaken excited about going into a LEO/FLEO position. I think about it all the time, and if people really do have dreams, then this one would be mine.
I hate it, I freaken hate the idea of none of this happening. I hate the dam idea of being some desk jocky, I hate the idea of knowing my life will most likely serve no purpose outside of my family.....
But I am slowly starting to see that my wife would go through hell if I did it. We spend all our time together, we work side by side, and go to college and take all the same classes together. We really do spend all of our time together, and I think the drastic change from this, to that will be to much.
I can never see her leaving me, or vice versa, but I can see me putting her through hell. Its a catch 22 situation and I'm screwed.:( This dose of reality makes me sick to my stomach, I have no idea what I will do, and the idea of finding some other career litteraly makes me depressed.
More indepth studies have shown that the rate is higher in the initial 3-5 yrs on the force. Not sure if it peaks down in later years, but I assume it may...Originally Posted by limeade
Well since you played that drama out in your head, you might as well throw in the towel since you have mentally beat the subject to death.
I'm a married FLEO. When I went through the process of getting hired I made my fiance' understand two things:
A. We would be moving throughout my career, it comes with the job. So if there was a career path she wanted to pursue, it probably would not happen being married to me.
B. There are times when I will have to travel and be away from the home, it comes with the job. So there are times your going to be alone in a big city.
She understood that and our we will be in our 4th year of marriage, still as strong as the first year. People tell me that marriage needs to be democracy; on many subjects I believe that. But it is a monarchy when it comes to a FLEO career progression. If you have two people who are both driven to succeed in their career, it is going to be real hard, when the FLEO half gets transferred to another region.
The benefits of my career have definately overshadowed the negative baggage that comes with it. While I like to say it is because of my choices, the truth is because I married the most amazing woman in the world. Behind every good man is a stronger woman. Now that I believe.

I think you also need to do more homework on you career decision. As a FLEO, you are a desk jockey. I do 90% of my work over the phone or in front of a computer. If you want slam bang action, breaking down doors and excitement, you should look into being a street patrol officer.Originally Posted by limeade

You need to get hired before you're a brother.Originally Posted by limeade

Ok so here is where we a different... I'm married already, my wife does not have the choice of chooseing to marry me. So what you are saying really isn't anything that can be applied to me. But thanks, I understand you are trying to help.Originally Posted by Nole795
Yup.... that wasn't what I was saying at all, I don't want to work in the coorperate world, this has nothing to do with really working behind a desk, it has more to do with the selling of homes verses doing something thats worthwild. Sorry I didn't get that through, as I read it now, I can see how you came to that conclusion.Originally Posted by Nole795

Wow that wasn't needed at all. For one, I wasn't even talking to you, so how can you dictate how and what I can say? I was saying it in a playfull way that suggested I related to him on a married man level, so in a sense I am in the club, because I'm married, what I had to say had nothing to do with any career or job.Originally Posted by Valor55
You know what guys, I just want to say thanksI've been under a lot of stress lately basically trying to figure what out what direction my life is going to take. Its kind of like a Y in the rode, and its one or the other. Anyways, just thanks, I know a lot of people helped on the other thread "advice" and this one to. Oh well, I will still try to find a way, its just last night, ugh, I just really felt like it wasn't going to happen, and it really....well pissed me off.
Thanks again guys, and sorry if made anyone mad, also if "brother" means something I don't know, then sorry, I live in Texas and everyone says it, I wasn't trying to be like some of the guys on here that do one ride-a-long and think they are cops. Thats not me, anyways, I'm off now to do some thinking.![]()
