    Questions on federal jobs.

After college i really want a job with some sort of federal law enforcement agency. What i was wondering. Is first with a a dual masters CJ and public administration and no experience are there gonna be many agency willing to hire. Also i have had my pilots lic. for 3 about to be 4 years. Are there any agencies that will pay for you for more training (instrument, commercial). So that i could end up being a pilot for them.

You'll have to be more specific in your questioning. The Federal Government is rather large and has multiple agencies. Several utilize employees as pilots and such. One, try to narrow your questioning down or two, use the search function and see if you can find your answer.

You will have a hard time. There are plenty of masters degree applicants who have a work history to pep up their resume. You need to get a stable work history to look more appetizing to the federal recruiters. I'm not saying it is impossible to get hired out of college, but an 1811 slot would be very competitive. I have met many Border Patrol Agents who were recent college graduates. You may want to try there.

No idea, you may want to call the agencies you are interested in and talk to a recruiter.

Well the college I'm about to transfer to it is mandatory to do an intern so i guess i will have some experience. I had a friend that just got hired on to the USBP. But for some reason that's about the only Law enforcement job that has no appeal to me.

An internship is not work history. You may get some insight on whatever your internship is about but it is far different from what I was referring to.

Remember, your competing against lawyers, accountants, linguists, military personnel, local/state law enforcement, scientists, etc...for a spot in the Federal trade. That is why it is so important for you to spice up your resume with a solid employment, because your competition already has.

    Good luck to you.

Ditto. I began working on federal LE applications during my last few months of grad school. I had two LE internship (one federal and one local) and was invited to two panel interviews, but never got passed them due to my lack of full-time work experience. Since then I have taken a management job in higher education and have had many more offers for interviews (even with agencies that initially wouldn't qualify me when I just had my master's degree).

Your best bet is to seek gainful employment that will benefit you towards federal LE (whether it be military, LE, corporate management, etc.), as Nole has already stated, your competition has already done so. Unfortunately, federal employment (LE or otherwise) is not about giving a shot to someone who has shown potential or worked hard to get a job, but rather, is more in line with giving the position available to the "best qualified" applicant(s).

How much flight time do you have? I had a pilot classmate who flew small commercial in the day & went to college at night. He was looking to get into legacy US Customs at the time. He also mentioned BP. Don't know what ever happened to him...hope he made the cut. He also mentioned possibly going into OCS as a military officer & pilot, so you may want to consider that route too. You have a special skill, might as well take advantage of it right?

I have around 200 hours right now. Its hard with college to get the money and time to fly. But yes i have talked to the USMC and Navy about flying. USMC was about the only ones that made it sound posible. So im still considering that. But im also the kind of guy that if i could fly a fighter i would rather be on the ground fighting.
