    Bearcat06 ... ???

    "****stain" ???
Like I stated before an agency will accept you after declining an offer however the approach has to be in a professional manner. Your average applicant can't put their life on hold for years while waiting to hear back from an agency things happen.

I have been it this situation before.

Am I a LEO ? Yes, why should I get verified to be treated by LEO's the same way I am treated in the streets? No thank you.

PS: Regarding the "How is that rude??" comment well, maybe rude wasn't the right word however I did find it to be alittle harsh. Thats just my opinion.

God bless and please be safe out there.

First of all, guys, let's keep the name calling out of it. That is not necessary.

Now, guess, I am sorry that you are so thin-skinned to take my comments personally. However, you are proving that you haven't a clue about how federal LE operates, particularly 1811 positions. It is extremely rare for you to be given a second look in the 1811 realm without redoing the entire process. Furthermore, anyone who has been through this process knows that it is a sheer blessing to make it through each step.

Guess, you say you have experience in the civilian world and the government sector. I hate to be the one to break this to you, but a fed desk-jockey is no comparison to a fed 1811. I took the test with 15000 other applicants. The USMS hired 150 of us off that test in the first year and 100 more the next year. Do you see any advantage for an agency to sit and wait for someone who is "tryingtop find themselves"? I don't think so. They go off to another extremely well qualified candidate and call it a day.

As I said, (agreeing with you) fed applicants should not put their life on hold. They should go on with their life as if the fed application is not even out there, taking further steps to make themselves more marketable all the time. That being said, when the call comes with a job offer, you will have to $h1t or get off the pot. The "average applicant" never gets the offer, it's the most competitive. If you think you are so squared-away that you are sure that you will make the "most competitive" category again, feel free to decline. Know that you are running a huge risk of NEVER getting that job. It's the applicant's decision, just know the risk.

I can concur with Switch on this. I was given a wishlist of three top choices for transfer when I went through the process. When I received the call, the agency gave me a city that was not on my list. I had 24 hours to make a decision. If I had turned it down, I would have been forever done. The agency had a clause that you may turn down the first choice, and you may get a second call...but I never met an agent that got the "second call."

There are a 1000 ready applicants who are more then willing to take your slot. Knowing that, I accepted the position, and in a peculiar fashion, I was called the next day and given a change of city preference, and actually got my third choice on the list. I don't know if this was a test or what, but I knew well enough that once my name was off the list...it was off for good.

    Last ride,
From what I have seen Switchback post in the past, if your desire is to be an 1811 USMS Deputy, then an 082 is the best way to go. Just remember that there are plenty of 1811 agencies in the federal world, do your research and look at what other fed agencies have to offer. You may be surprised at what you find. Coming from a law enforcement background, you have a good shot.

    Good luck to you.

Switch is right on this one. 7,000 people applied with me for 200 spots. If one didn't take it because they didn't want to be stationed on the border, Oh well, there's some other guy out who doesn't care if they stationed in nowhere Texas.

As a local who's gone Fed who's gone back to local, I would do what others have said & wait until you pass probation w/ your PD first while waiting for your offer for the 0082 position. Cross that bridge when you come to it. As I've found out the hard way, nothing is guaranteed in life! Heck, I've had a "conditional offer" with the USSS since 2003 too! I've moved on in life that's why I'm back w/ my local PD (okay, I lost patience & missed it too much). I'm still slowly moving along with the USSS but I've always told myself, "I'll cross that bridge when I come to it." I'm really not sure what I'd do IF that Fed call ever came but the most important thing is I'm living in the now. You may have to do the same; live in the now. Having a baby on the way, having to re-imburse the PD, & the fact that you (unlike most Americans) actually like your current job is 3 points against the 0082 position. So what's the score man?

    ps
You still got 10 more years until 37, lots of time...

If they tell you where your going to be stationed that would do it for me. I was in the same boat with ICE. Waited for ever and then got my call. Los Angles, CA. I would have taken anywhere but CA or NYC but that was my offer. Hated to do it but I had to decline the offer.

For me the job location was the deciding factor. If you like where you’re going to be stationed, great, jump on it!!! But if you don't then stay where you’re at. As much as I want to be an 1811, I don't hate my job enough to put my family through the hell we would have gone through for me to take the job in California.

Switch and the others are right; I got my offer in August of 2004 and haven't heard anything from them since. But, I also know that they have had major budget problems so maybe I will hear back from them. But, I'm not holding my breath waiting.

If you like where you’re going to be stationed and can afford it jump on it. If not stay where you are and be happy.

    Congrats on the new baby!!

    Update

Here's an update to a topic I nearly forgot I created. I got a call from one of the guys I know at the local USMS office. He said he got a letter telling him to schedule a FIT-test for me by March 17 as they are having another DUSM class in April or May. I also had to fill out another SF86 (apparently these things expire)! Anyway, I got all that done so now it's hurry up and wait again. I really hope this is it as I have waited five years come June. Thanks again for the replies.

I gave up a long time ago. I'm very happy where I am now though. Good luck on the prooooocccceeeessss. I took that test back in 03/02 and finished everything by 11/02. With updates now and then until 06/05, I'm done with this LE career effort.
