Fellas,
I did a search and got nada so I'll ask my esteemed boardmates....Does the age cutoff of 37 also include those who are current 6c Fed LEOs? The NCIS website was not real helpful in this area.
Thanks,
Don

Don,
If you already have 6c status, you are grandfathered in.....age doesn't become an issue.
You can move from one 6c position to another.....
That's what I thought too Bear..but some jobs (US DSS for example) do not grandfather 6Cs in and the age cutoff is firm. I di not know if NCIC was the same as all other Fed jobs or not.Originally Posted by Bearcat06

Learn something everyday. I thought that DSS would grandfather folks in like the rest of the agencies out there....Originally Posted by Don Nadie
I would suspect there are others as well.
I am pretty sure NCIS allows for 6c covered employees from other agencies to come over to work for them after you are over 37......I will ask my buddy that retired out from them to see if he remembers.....
You mentioned NCIC twice. If it is NCIC you want to get into, I can do that for you in a jiffy. :D
Hmm, I did not know that about DSS either. Is that for their 1811 or 2501 agents?

It was my understanding that you had to be 37 prior to getting in unless you had prior 6c employment. My understanding was that this was the federal regulation, not subject to individual agency modification... I could be wrong as has happened two other times in my life :p You might check with OPM as well as they are the ones who set these regulations.

It is my understanding that this is the case with 2501 SA's with DS due to them being under the Foreign Service system, but I don't know if this is true for the 1811 SA's with DS. Also, I have heard of it going the otherway quite well (i.e. 2501's going to a non-DS, 6c-covered 1811 position elsewhere later on).Originally Posted by Bearcat06
This is all simply what I've heard, so hopefully I'm not just passing on more rumors.

I believe current SA's are exempt from the age cutoff if you have 6c status. Send and email to the HR department, it should be on the website, they will be happy to provide you with the info.
Like Chewy, I had believed the age cutoff was due to federal law and not subjected to agency policy. You are eligible for retirement at 20 years LE service and have to retire at 57 so 37 is the max. I would think any modification of this by an agency would open them to an age descrimination lawsuit.
Okay, but this is not what the original question was asking. The original poster asked IF one ALREADY has a 6c-covered position, and is over the age of 37, would they be able to attain a 6c-covered position with another agency. Added to this were some agencies that have somewhat different retirement systems (ex: DSS). The best bet is to call the HR department for NCIS and inquire further, but if I pulled out my magic 8-ball, I would bet it would say "All signs point to YES."Originally Posted by 1depd

Since ROS is beign a stickler......
Edit my post to add:
Since you already have a 6c covered job (you had to be under 37 to receive this job), it would seem that any agency imposed restrictions would open them to a age descrimination lawsuit because the reason for the restriction is retirement requirements.
Seems a little redundant when read with my initial post.
Man I have got to start editing my posts better. No thanks on the NCIC request...Nice catch.:pOriginally Posted by eff-bee-eye
