I have edited my original staement on the DEO Position. All I will say is I highly recommend speaking to a Deo first before applying. Go down to any district and ask a DEO what they think of it.

Is there a point to this post, or did you write this just to garner sympathy?Originally Posted by thedammed
And as for the "auxilary cop" remark, some of us do the same duties and functions as our full-time counterparts on a part-time basis... so we're seen as an additional body and back-up by our full-time counterparts, rather than a lesser person for not doing the job 40+ hours a week.

HAHA, you know what's really funny? He's actually posting this from a USDOJ computer. He may actually be real.

Im not trying to put down Aux. Cops , I was one for many years, so sorry if you took that the wrong way. im just trying to give people a heads up
No offense to any DEO's but the position is DETENTION Enforcement Officer, so what exactly did you expect the position to entail? If you want to work as a federal jailer, you probably should have applied as a Correctional Officer with Bureau of Prisons. If you wanted to be a DUSM (082 or 1811), applying for a different job within the same agency isn't going to allow you to do the duties of a DUSM.Originally Posted by thedammed

Gee....wait till Switch gets on here and reads this......
thedammed,
I find your post a bit humorous for 2 reasons. First, at face value, one would look at it as a reply as opposed to a stand-alone comment. No one asked abotu the DEO slot.
More importantly, you seem very disgruntled. I would imagine that you are not the best point of reference for an opinion on this information. Perhaps, rather than blaming others (or the system) you should look to yourself. The duties of a DEO are CLEARY defined. They are not hidden from you prior to being hired. There were no promises made that you would eb out helping on task forces. The best applicants do their homework prior to taking the job offer.
Finally, apparently you are not the most knowledgeable person to speak to the funding of the Service. How long have you been on? Do you nkow what the funding was like prior to the 3 tiered system? By no means is it a great system, but it is far better than what it used to be. If anything, the 3-tiered system shouldbe made a 2-tiered system, DEOs and 1811s, with the broadening of the DEOs duties to handle court. As to funding, it is FAR better than what it used to be. The Service is doing far better, more diverse missions than we ever have. Again, do a little homework on this one, buddy.

This position is not really a good one to enter the USMS. You are looked at as a second class citizen. They dont allow you to do anything but transport prisoners or process new arrests.
The reason that the USMS does not receive proper funding is because they have created this internal three tier system 1811, 082, 1802 which does nothing but create friction and lower morale.
I highly recommend to anyone with any type of law enforcement background to either wait to apply through the test for 082 deputy or seek another job in another agency.
When you are a deo you arent "one of the boys" you are looked at more like an auxiliary cop within the usms.
Ask any deo in the usms and they will confirm what i have written, it is the truth.
