    Budget cuts??

Hey guys sorry for the vanishing act. Been busy with work and trying to land an 1811 slot. I am all finished with the USSS and am number 6 on the internal roster list, Finished my ATF panel on Oct. 21, and have my ICE panel scheduled for Nov. 6th. We were told in roll call yesterday that apparently all agencies are going to have budget cuts to help pay for Katrina damages and such. With that, all training is being on hold and there is a high probablility of the next three classes for USSS being cancelled. I can't believe this. I'm so close and now a hurricane is ruining my chances. Has anyone else heard of this or have your agencies been told of budget cuts?? Appreciate any feedback. Im going nuts.

I'm applying to NCIS, and while I haven't heard of any budget-cuts per se (I'm just an outsider afterall), I do know that Katrina has held up the process for those applying. I'm tenatively scheduled to take my screening interview "sometime in December", but due to the Katrina-related work of the FO I'm applying out of, I may be waiting until after the new year for the next step.

I know a lot of things were cut out of our new budget. We were slated to expand into three other field offices (Newark, Miami & Chicago) and all the positions were cut for the next 2 years.

Could you please give me a timeframe on your USSS application process?

just curious upon submitting the initial forms, what's the next step and length for 1811 and uniformed division 0083.

    Thanks

Well ASU, these processes suck for a guy like me who isn't patient. It took me 9 months to land my current 0083 position. Still waiting on 1811.

    UD

    POST test-april,03
    -panel-july,03
    -medical-sept,03
    -poly-oct,03

    SA

    -panel-June,05
    -medical-June,05
-no bi or poly due to being ud
-#5 on the list, waiting for a class

Remember the internal roster is quicker since I already have my poly and bi done. So a couple less steps. They just filled a Dec 27 class for SA. 6 off the roster went. All had more UD time on than me so I think thats what they went by. now Im hearing theyre pushing classes back or cancelling due to budget issues.

Doesn't surprise me. I spoke with a gentleman who was an ASAIC at one of the larger offices (or at least he was last time I spoke with him about a year ago), and he waited 3 years after completing the SA process to be brought onboard. He wasn't UD prior to becoming a SA (he was an officer in the military), but did end up working as a trooper during the 3 year interim. USSS is a top-notch agency, but from what I've heard from insiders, their hiring process can slow down all of a sudden for reasons unknown to the applicant.

At this point, no news about ATF cutting back hiring or training this year. Our budget was signed last week with no new cuts, our budget increased in part to accommodate new hires. Also, none of our other training has been cancelled. Good luck on all apps.

sorry bout last format on message.....wasn't meant to be that hard to read.....cleaned it up a bit.

-JBT....I didnt think ATF was effected either,,since they had 3 openings since July for testing. Maybe the service meant Homeland Security only, I dont know. Im in the process for ATF and ICE as well and really hope this budget stuff doesnt effect them as well.

    That's Sweet

Good luck with all of you federal jobs. That is a highly wanted job. Just wondering if you know if GPA is a big factor in Federal Jobs. Currently, I am a junior majoring in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement. I have around a 3.0 and was wondering if that would be a big factor.

GPA is not a huge factor. They used to have something if you had a high GPA (3.5 or 3.7+). But outside of that, I really fon't think it matters.

An overall GPA of 3.0+ or GPA of 3.5+in your major will qualify you for GS7 versus GS5 pay..

Hey ASU, I've been in the USSS SA process since April 03, just recently been scheduled for the poly. Luckily, I'm back in local LE while I wait & twiddle my thumbs... ;)

Hey all, FNG to RP.net. I'm going on two years with the USSS-SA. Submitted my app in Jan of '02, got hired Jan '04. Long process. I had to make a couple phone calls along the way which seemed to help.
I haven't heard of any budget cuts in our training classes. The teletypes keep coming out with new class rosters, so I assume every thing is moving along...as well as can be expected.
I am currently in the process with the ATF, which is where I wanted to be in the first place. Anyway, I've retaken the TEA and completed the panel interview. I assume the holidays have slowed thing up a bit. The talk about budget cuts is very discouraging. I've also heard there will only be one class run this summer? Anything news to pass along would be very appreciated. Sobie and I are learning patience IS a vertue.
