    IEA or CBPO

I would like to just get different opinions. Let's just say I have been offered both the CBPO job and the IEA job. I am really trying to figure out which one I should pursue. I know IEA has 6c and CBP does not. However I have learned that IEA only has promotion potential to gs-9 whereas CBPO is gs-11. I know that IEA has AUO and CBPO does not. However CBP does have double time OT. So which one do you guys think I should go with. I have heard most of the negatives stereotypes about both jobs. For example, CBPO's are stamp monkeys and IEA's are glorified bus drivers. So can anyone give me insight into what I should do at this point? Any info is appreciated?

If you are close to 37 and want the covered position, take the IEA job. If you have time and want some experience, depending on where you are stationed, you will arrest more bad guys, seize more dope, and make more money as a CBPO. It is pretty diverse, if you are in Savannah or Long Beach, you will work cargo 99% of the time, if you are at LAX or JFK, you will work passengers 90% of the time and certainly for the first few years, if you are on the Southern Border, you will have alot of enforcement actions. The same for some of the Northern Border ports such as Blaine, Buffalo, or Detroit and a few others. If you want to see people affiliated with terrorism, upstate NY and Detroit. If you enjoy a slow pace, some of the places outside of Glacier Park are beautiful and not real busy. As for being stamp monkeys, put up or shut up<g>. All you have to do is take the job and find out.

I agree with Lost Texan. If you've got some time before your 37y/o cut off age and want to learn a lot and make good money while doing it CBP would be a good starting point. Especially if you can get the Southern Border or a larger port like JFK or LAX etc. We have a wide field of people and jobs.
