I know a lot of factors play into the length of the BC, but if employers and references have been contacted(1-2 months ago), is that a sign it should be completed soon?

This is for a specific field office position/internship, thus I figured it should be completed sooner as there is not any delay with piles of applications like a vacancy job announcement..

All depends who is doing it and how many investigators are assigned to you BI. I have 4 assigned to mine and it still took forever !!!!

I was already hired and at the academy, and I got a call from the BI. He was still working on the paperwork. Thats kind of scary.

It dont mean jack...don't get hopes high on any level in the process. There is no method to the madness. Just be happy when you get the phone call.

My BI for my internship with USSS started (I think) around May and ended shortly before I started my first week on the job, which was the last week of August. I'm not totally sure when the BI began, but the SA who conducted it first contacted me about it around May (if memory serves me correctly).

As I recall, another student worker in the same office said his took right at about 6 months. I guess the most accurate answer is that results may vary.
