My investigative strategies and techniques did not change when I made the switch. Pretty much I work the case in the same manner as I did before.
We do have better selection of donuts at the federal level.

Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

Not trying to hijack this thread but my question is similar. I have about 12 months till graduation with a BA in Criminal Justice. I’m carrying a 4.0 GPA (deans’ list/chancellors list), I have military experience. I served with the marines in 1st Force Reconnaissance Company. I was an armorer, not a force recon marine. I have been to many shooting courses with the unit. I also have a concealed weapons permit (probably doesn’t help) and an inactive secret clearance (doesn’t help either but easier to have it re-instated vs. starting the background checks over). Being that I’m a veteran, I thought my chances were increased when it comes to getting federal job...but I don’t know. Any advice, you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Look into the website of the agency your interested in and you will be able to find out what there needs/demands/requirements are. Solid GPA, military exp., and degree will definitely help in your process..Good luck!
Where agencies are you looking at?
The CCW and prior secret clearance won't mean anything. Fed agencies train you on their guns, and they will still do a background investigation on you. Veterans preference will help you on the first stages of applying, but not much after that. You will still have to pass that agency's tests, interviews, poly, background, etc.
Only a few federal agencies (for criminal investigators) REQUIRE you to have a degree (like FBI, NCIS, some others), but it is VERY hard to become competitive in FLE without at least a bachelors degree. Some will let you start the application process before you graduate, like ATF will let you apply up to 9 months before expected graduation. Some will let you apply 6 months before, and some (like FBI) require you to have your degree in hand before applying at all.
But give us some more insight as to what positions/agencies you are interested in, and more specific questions will prompt more specific answers.
Thanks for your replies guys. I would love to get into a SA position but i have yet to further investigate which agency. I dont know much about the differences between the different agencies, so i'll have to read up a bit.Originally Posted by eff-bee-eye
