selective service question

Hello all.
Im a late starter, (29) but I have a question.
Im considering a career in law enforcement, but I checked the selective service site, and the registry has no record of my having signed up.
I remember signing up and mailing the form off, but my question is if they did not recieve it, or do not have record of me signing up, does this jeopardize my aspirations?

Quite possibly, it could. Every department/agency that I can think of requires applicants to be registered (if a male born after a certain date). I would contact the Selective Service System directly (their contact information is found here on their website: http://www.sss.gov/CONTACT.HTM).

I don't know if you are meaning aspirations of Federal LE. But I do know of every County and Municipal LEO application I filled out, all asked if I had registered with the Draft, and some asked for a copy of the card they sent me. So, I'd recommend getting that cleared up ASAP.

Definitely, upon registration, you should have received a card with your selective service #, etc..

You need to get that cleared up ASAP and when we say ASAP we are meaning like tomorrow morning you need to jump on it. If i do recall its a Federal Offense if not registered. Also on the card it states that it should be on your person at all times. So get it handled man.

side note: its made of a weak paper material, so make sure to laminate it, as it will hold up longer..

Well now having read through sss.gov, it appears the card is for your convenience... well, from what I could get out of it.

FYI: You can order a new card from their website for your records, BUT THEY SEND IT AS A CHEAP POSTCARD, WITH ALL YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION LISTED ON IT!!!

I was really pissed when they sent me that cheap postcard, folded once and secured ever so tightly with a measly sticker (which was conveniently broken). Inside the postcard was my SSN, full name and even DOB I think. The only damn thing that wasn't on there was my mother's maiden name. Unfreakinbelievable. To add to that, on the front in BOLD it clearly states this is your Selective Service Registration Information. Should have just said, "Open me thieves!!"

So, if you can find out your registration #, there shouldn't be a need to get that special postcard. Way to save 10 cents on a sealed envelope SSS!!

Basically all you need is that number for SF-86 forms etc., from what I recall, but it won't hurt to have the card in case they want a copy of it..

This is not necessarily true. While the SF-86 does ask for the number, I have been asked to produce a copy of proof (i.e. the card or the post card EBE mentioned) for at least two federal positions I've applied to, not counting the number I listed on the SF-86.

Nope. The winning lottery pics for the ROS application picks include SA positons with NCIS, and AFOSI (starting in Jan 06), OCS for USCG, and (perhaps) FAMS. I've applied to a number of others SA positions, but thus far, haven't made it past a panel interview (of course, I've only been apply for just over a year now, so there's still plenty of time left).
