    FLETC/ICE here I come!!

I started the hiring process for an ICE Special Agent about two and a half years ago, my junior year of college, and FINALLY received my training date and duty location. I am so stoked! I'll be heading to FLETC in Glynco in about a month, then I'm off to Phoenix (not the first place I'd choose, but I hear it's nice). If anybody has any insight at all into the FLETC or ICE experience I would love to ask you a few questions (it is near impossible to get ahold of anybody to ask simple questions such as what to bring to training, when do benefits start, what is the rate of pay while at FLETC, and so on). If anybody can help, please let me know and I'll ask away.

At any rate, congratulations, Ryan. ICE is an outstanding agency. Good luck at FLETC and with your new career.

If you do not mind, could you give a brief write-up on your experience/education?

You really do not need a lot, almost everything will be provided. I would recommend a TV, Radio & most importantly a "CAR". You'll need a car to get around at night and weekends, unless your a barracks rat. You will also be very popular with your peers. ICE, should give you a list of things, suits, etc to bring with you. Congrats & good luck.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Plus, only a BS in CJ? I thought the feds were extremely competitive. Or is a job as an ICE Special Agent less competitve than the FBI, ATF, DEA, etc.? Somebody please explain.

By the way, I didnt mean that to sound like I'm insulting Ryan. I'm sure you'll make a great SA. I'm just a little confused, thats all.

Yes. I submitted my application (to start the whole hiring process) at the very end of my junior year. I believe that as long as you are within 11 months (I think?) of your "anticipated graduation date" you can apply.

I have heard that ICE has been really trying to hire the "young guys" such as those that have just gotten out of college, etc. And since an applicant either needs a degree or previous law enforcement experience, I guess I fall under one of those categories. Maybe I scored real well on my interview, test, etc? Who knows. I'm just happy to be in finally.

For those of you in college or soon to graduate, and are interested in apply to ICE for the current SA announcement, heed my advice: DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE ICE SA TEST BATTERY.

I took the ICE SA Test back in August and felt confident that I had passed. It was similar to the GRE in my respects, but also had other portions that were unique (ex: investigative logic and a psychological profile). I found out about a month after taking it that I had not passed (and I was sure that I had). If you apply and are invited to take the test, buy the ARCO studyguide for the TEA and use it (and the studyguide provided by your recruiter) and seriously dedicate a good amount of time to knowing the question types on the test.
