    Customs packet in mail today

Today I received a rather large packet from Customs today.
Basically it is yet another conditional offer of employment. This is response to a test I took in nov 03. Packet contains a "pre-appointment checklist" It says I need
to complete the packet and return buy oct 25 if I am still interested in the job. Then is will take like 4-6 months to get hired. That all sounds great but the thing is my Fiancé got this same letter almost 2 years ago. We live in south FLA and applied for Miami. She took the test in June 03. in aug 03 she had structured interview, Medical exam and had a pretty involved back ground investigation where this guy went and talked with all her neighbors and the local PD and such. By fall 03 we were certain she would get "the call" anytime. That was two years ago. We planned our vacation around the idea she would be leaving soon lol. It has been so long she has since had to update her medical, and her BI. She got a call in early aug 05 telling her to expect to go to FLETC in the next 120 days or so....still waiting. Still writhing from my COE for the FAMS that turned into FY05 ending without "the call" then I get this packet from customs. Feels like they (the FEDS) are toying with me.(us) Anyone in south Florida hearing anything from customs? Any class dates? I can't wait to pay a local PD to take my finger prints again. Heres the kicker! I work for DHS now!! So I am going to pay the local PD to take my finger prints (again) and send them to Washington (again) even though I work for the federal government. I bet I am sending my prints to an office right next to were they keep my finger prints on file. What do you think the chances of that are?

A bunch of Officers have been and are being hired for Miami. The average time in pipeline for CBP Officers going through the Academy now, was 2 to 3 years. Nobody is messing with you, that is just the way it is, it is frustrating, but certainly not much different than most waiting to be hired. If you are not willing to go to other locations across the country, it could be longer or not at all.

Was it from the Department of Redundancy Department? :D (Thanks Term.)

Seriously, it's the federal government. Hurry up and wait.

    Funny you say that

[QUOTE=Valor55]Was it from the Department of Redundancy Department? :D QUOTE]

I sit here filling out my "Application for federal employment" I can't help but think "why can't I just send in my SF-50?"

I must say that the new online SF-86 is nice. I can just cut and paste from my FAM/Avue SF-86.

Thank god for small wonders. But it still amazes me that I have to send in my finger prints to an agency I work for. Can't get over that one.

    Process

I took my test for CBP (Border Patrol Agent) on aug 12, got my test results 10 days later(they said it would take 4-6 weeks to get them back) and then received my tentative selection packet 3 weeks after that. So far it seems like they are on the ball. They said the wait between turning in my packet and the oral interview would be about 3-6 weeks. I hope they stay on schedule and that holds true. But you never know. I've been dealing with 2 local agencies here recently, but I have never experienced a federal hiring process. I'm hoping since they are really in need of BPA's that the process will move in a more timely fashion than you guys have described. I will keep you all updated.

As a former CBP Officer, I waited a total of 18 months between the time I applied and the time I started at FLETC. I've also been in the hiring process with ICE for over 2 years now and still haven't completed the process. "Hurry up and wait" should be the motto of the federal government.
