    Degree's

Does This look like a Bullsh*t degree or are Homeland Security degree's now starting to come out? If not, what would be the best Degree out to get right now in association with Homeland Security?

Heres another Link from USA Today about Colleges implementing Homeland Security Degree's.

    Thanks for you input.

Homeland Security might be an ok degree if you plan to work in law enforcement but I think you should consider getting it from a different school.

I work in academica full-time, so I can attest the institution listed for that degree is a legit online university, as is the degree. HOWEVER, if you look at the curriculum for MOST "Homeland Security" degrees, they are simply degrees in Criminal Justice with a few other courses added to make it the flavor-of-the-month (ex: Fire Science, Emergency Management, etc.). It's a degree, but no more valuable than a CJ degree, IMHO.

Instead of looking for the right "Homeland Security degree", look at what individual agencies under DHS are looking for, and then seek a relevant degree. For example:

U.S. Secret Service- their investigative duties deal with a lot of electronic crime, financial fraud and counterfeiting investigations. A degree in Accounting, Computer Science/Information Technology and others may be much more valuable for an applicant with their agency.

Look at the actual investigative duties or law enforcement responsibilities for an agency, and then try to find a degree that will give you the best education for persuing that "Homeland Security" position. Listening to a college telling you what their degree will do for you may or may not be the most accurate information.

Hmmm perhaps the Louisiana Governor and New Orleans mayor could look into that degree.

Although my current school (california university of Pennsylvania) is not an extremely large university, they do offer a Masters Degree in Homeland Security. I'm a criminal justice (BS) senior and my department chair recently mentioned the Homeland Security program to me.

Not necessarily a "bullsh*t" degree, but I would agree with it being similar to a CJ degree....which can sometimes limit your résumé. I would venture to say that you would be much better off with a degree such as CS/IT or a Business-related degree. Then, if you decide you want some formal education in a more specialized field in FLE, you can check out the various grad programs in Strategic Intelligence, Counterterrorism, Homeland Security, etc. Your options in these areas are usually better at the Master's degree level.
