    Pentagon Force Protection Agency

Does anyone know from where the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (legacy DPS) derives it’s arrest authority?

I see a trail where the GSA Administrator delegated authority for protecting the Pentagon to the Department of Defense back in ’87 but there it stops.

Do they have statutory arrest authority or are they like other DoD police where it originates from a base commander or the like?

I believe the Pentagon is considered like a city in Virginia and the Pentagon Police have state authority for up to 300 yards off of their property. I could be completely wrong though.

You might be right, with 25,000+ people its bigger than the first city I worked in, it could be a lot of fun if it had housing. Maybe I'll shoot a pm to Richcecil, it's driving me nuts not to know.

I am in the hiring process for the Pentagon Force Protection. I got an email on the 20th of Oct. tellin me to call soon, so that they could start my Prelimenary background investigation. I called the next day at 0815 and the guy told me that he had my case and would call me later. I never got the call back. Should I not read too much into this, and just say that it was a friday.

Drum roll please(as the Sgt draws a deep breath).....The Pentagon Police agency is authorized to : perform the functions of a Police Officer for the Department of Defense, make arrest, carry firearms and perform other duties in accordance with Section 2674 of title 10 of the USC....Breath released! Further more we are a congressionally mandated Police Department that has been granted Concervator of the Peace status from the Commonwealth of virginia, Police authority from the District of Columbia and soon from a Commonweath of PA near you, Police Officer status. We have Memo's of agreement from Fairfax county, Arlington county and Metro Transit Police. WE ARE NOT DOD Police, as we have no Military in our Chain of Command. We answer to the Secratery of Defense thru the Director of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency. We patrol 5 districts, are directly responsible for the day to day protection of the Secretary of Defense, the Chaiman of the Joint Chiefs and several other well to do pooba's. We have 543 operations Officers and are the second best paid Federal 083 agencies in the US, Second only to Park Police. We are authorized to carry 24/7 and HR 218 applies to us. Here's the big question....even when you're the highest paid, how in the heck can you afford to live anywhere within 2 hours of DC? Without getting to specific, how far of a commute do you have, how bad is the cost of housing, and how bad is the crime rate?

This is the primary reason I left Fairfax County PD. I could not afford to live near work. I also didn't like the rat race mentality of the area. I think you'll find that most cops in that area who own homes have about an hour drive to get to work. They either live out west in Clark County, Stephens City, Winchester or West Virgina. Or they've gone south into Southern Prince William or Stafford County and other parts south. Richcecil there has a nice townhouse in Fairfax County but he's owned it a while. I don't think you could move into even a mediocre townhouse in the DC area for less than $200-$250K.
