Anybody have any Q's about our department? Its one of the more obscure federal uniformed departments along with D.O.D. and others but none the less, a great "stepping stone". I'd be happy to answer any questions.

It's an 083 position, right? If so, is it 6c-covered?Originally Posted by jvale00

My new hero!
Obscure? It is the largest uniformed federal law enforcement agency out there! How obscure could it be?

I dont understand why in the world you need a BS degree to get hired.
Is there something someone can tell me as to why?
From what I noticed, pay isnt all that great-starting and there is a high turn over rate from what I understand.
Just curious.
yeah pretty sure you don't need a degree to get hired at the VA cause all of my station with the exception of me would have to find new jobs.
NO we are not 6c covered
hmm curious because I got rejected because I did not meet the education req. a couple years ago.
Maybe you shouldn't have tried passing off that bogus high school diploma as legit.Originally Posted by get it right

VA police officers must have specialized law enforcement experience to be hired as a police officer by VA. Standards are set by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and require experience with basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices and techniques. Prior jobs must include responsibility for protecting life and property and the maintenance of law and order. This experience may have been gained as a police officer for a municipal, county, state or federal agency, a military policeman or a parks or forest service policeman, or in similar positions that require the necessary knowledge and skills in law enforcement. A degree in criminal justice may be substituted for some experience

Many VA's will hire vets before non-vets (all else being equal) The vets we deal with like dealing with those that served much more than those that didn't. Makes the job slightly easier.

Our VA cops are more like security. I think they just started carrying guns a few years ago. They provide the security for the hospital which is nice, they handle all the small stuff, and we only get called if it is something big.
My question is if the VA have arrst authority, ehy can't they, or dont they arrest. I dont think ours has arrested anyone in the 9 years I have worked in the area? They are not on the list at our jail intake also? Do they transport them somewhere else other than county jail?
What are the regular duties of an officer with VA? Also, you said it's a great stepping stone. What positions have people gone into after working for VA first?Originally Posted by jvale00

Yea, I did not possess experience or have education(BS).
Since then I have education/experience, but have no ambition to join as of now.
Thanks for your insight!

Are you kidding Norm! Who would have thought they were the largest uniformed agency. I am not budging from RP to do any research on it, so I am going to just be impressed with that.
