The only good thing a Marine is good for is target calibration.
Marines - proving there is always a place for someone who scored under 40 on the ASVAB
Marines - Proving there is actually a job in the Navy that is lower than a Boatswain's Mate.
ET2 - USN 1979-84

Seeing as how I am a US Navy Police Officer (Master At Arms), I may be qualified to answer this question.
First of all, look back into your previous history. Any criminal activity? Bankruptcy? Used any drugs other than mary jane?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you don't even qualify for the secret clearance. If you answered no to all of the above, we can talk. You MUST have a driver's license and you MUST understand that the Navy was commissioned in 1775 to protect the WATERS and we operate in the WATER. Yes, we have many many shore bases but I hear alot of people around here that don't want to go to a ship. Why the hell did they join the Navy?
Now, I suggest that you contact your nearest Navy recruiter and tell them that you don't want ANYTHING but the MA program. They will try to sell you on many different things based on your ASVAB scores. Don't take them. If they tell you that you don't qualify, go to another recruiter around the end of the month. I pretty much can guarentee that you will get what you want. If you have any problems with the recruiters or need any further information, feel free to email me at navy_cop09627@yahoo.com and be sure to visit the below link. Good luck!

WARHEADS ON FOREHEADS!!!!
sorry to hijack this....lol....gotta defend my corps. by the way, i scored much much higher than 40 on the asvab, (and i think its only 35 to get in the corps)hehe. but hey, we marines forgive you navy guys for not having the balls to join, anytime we need a ride you guys are always there to taxi us around!! :D now, go practice bending over at the hips and making your forehead touch the ground without bending your knees again!! lol:eek:
on a serious note, naveyfiveo, i have a guy working for us who just retired navy, he said that half the time master at arms werent even allowed to have live ammo in their guns while on ship?!?!?!?!? is this true? i'm sure things have changed because of recent world and national events...but...just curious.
I do what I can do when I can do it.
Marines we just do a job and do it right
If you absolutly want it destroyed over night we are the guys to do it.
I have to admit I once tried to join the Navy but the recruitors wouldnt take me. My ASVAB score was too high
Also i dont think that i could have gone around being called a seamen, then a petty officer. Personally Sgt sounds better.
but that just me SEMPER FI.....:D
Every morning in Africa a lion awakes and knows that it must run faster than the fastest gazzel or it will starve. Every morning in Africa a gazzel awakes and knows that it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. The moral of the story is. No matter wheither you are the lion or the gazzel. That when the sun comes up your running..........
thanks jason for the great help..
ill get u on yahoo ok..
Well, since your defending, let me join in too. First of all, yesterday's Master at Arms are just that. YESTERDAY! Today's Master At Arms are trained as Law Enforcement Officers. They are trained in the most sophisticated weapon systems, drive police cars and perform LE Duties as well as Physical Security Duties, Maritime LE overseas, we are the anti terrorism specialists for the US Navy. Shipboard work is one week of school, the rest is dedicated to being a Police Officer.
As far as us giving you rides. You're right. Not having Balls? Nope, I got balls; large ones and i have BRAINS. Today's Navy is also quite a bit more sophisticated than the old days of laying around in hammocks and singing songs. A majority of us are either college educated or working on degrees. We are the ones that fight the wars from a distance and inflict the most damage from the air and the water. SEMPER FI all you want but remember when you need to get somewhere, we give you the rides and when you get clap or the drip from your secret homosexual boyfriend, our Corpsmen clear it up for you with a few antibiotics.
Have a fine United States Navy Day.

WARHEADS ON FOREHEADS!!!!
Anybody who thinks the Navy stays away from danger and shoots from a distance obviously has never fought in a war. From Lebanon to the Gulf to Vietnam sailors were right there besides both the Marine and Army - some being dropped into harms way.
Remember the Stark? Tell them they were not in harms way.
I was merely kidding at my previous post - I have a lot of respect for Marines as do I for all of our military. I know that today's military is made up of educated and dedicated indivduals. In the technical PO ranks, I can say that most of us had at least an AA degree already, and the Chief had a Masters. Even Army tank drivers require a level of training, education, and intelligence needed not only to fire the weapon, but to maintain it in the field. (not an easy task).
I think gone are the days when the army is made up of diverted convicts - the military needs leaders and professionals, not crooks.
