    AFOSI 1811 Postings

Just to let anyone know who's interested in this agency, postings are up for the 1811 slot.

    Good luck to anyone applying!

I just checked AFOSI's website and there were no postings for civilian agents (1811). You must be talking about the Palace Acquire vacancies posted on USAjobs. Let me give you some clarification:

Palace Acquire (PAQ) is a hiring method for the Air Force, which AFOSI uses as well. Being hired via this process will make you a civilian agent with OSI, BUT, it is EXTREMELY competative. How competative? I applied last year and made it to the panel interviews. Out of 70 interviewees, only six (6) positions were available for hire. It's my understanding that the promotional pace for PAQ-hired agents is much quicker than the regularly-hired agents, which may have something to do with why there are so few positions available and why it's so competative. If you meet the qualifications, go for it, but don't get discouraged if you don't make it, as many others won't. Too few positions through this particular hiring process. If OSI is where you want to be, I suggest applying to this and the regular hiring method (posted on OSI's website) whenever they become available.

Ros--thanks for clarifying that, I was getting a little confused, as I did not see it on the OSI site as well.

The actual position/duties are the same, right? Basically a different hiring approach?

Yeah, that's a good way of describing it. The PAQ program was designed to hire 1811's that met specific Superior Academic Achievement qualifications, but not necessarily with LE experience. Did I mention it's VERY competative? :D

Yep sure did. So the PAQ is a way, in a sense, to attract fresh Superior academic college kids and those who lack in LE experience?

The way they described it in one area, it looked like a Co-Op program.

Yet, I found the intern section and will be applying for a spot for next summer...

It's not a co-op, and while the position is called "intern" in some parts of the announcement, you are an agent (1811). The word intern is used by the AF hiring program, not OSI, so it's simply another route for employment on the civilian side of OSI.

As two SAs with OSI explained to me, PAQ was designed to bring in those with Superior Academic Achievement, period. True there may be a number of newly-graduated students who qualify, but there are also other federal LEOs, state/local investigators and other professionals that apply as well, which goes back to the point I made before, it's REALLY competative. It usually attacts a large number of applications, and is generally narrowed down to less than a hundred for interviews. Out of that, less than ten are hired (usually closer to six or so).

Even if you only make it to the panel interview (like me), I highly encourage anyone interested in the position and qualified to apply. Great experience if you've never gone through a federal panel interview before (it was my first), and you never know, you just might have something they're looking for. AFOSI and NCIS are tied as probably the #1 agencies I'd like to work for (ICE is up there as well), so the fact that I was able to experience the panel interview and know what to expect (and how to answer certain questions) for next time is a huge plus, in my opinion.

Straight from an OSI agent: " 'Traditionally' PAQ's are hired with little to no experience and a solid GPA (Of course there are exceptions). They target younger college kids and bring them on to 'groom' them into full journeyman status."

    Ros--

Can you apply while in school? For instance, DEA allows 90 days and others up to 9 months. Do you know what the OSI requirement is? It sounds just as tough as the FBI honors Internship, 75-150 applicants based on state size, narrowed down to 15 interviews, then Top 5 sent to D.C. for final (single applicant) decision...

Not sure right off hand. My suggestion to you is to read through everything on the PAQ website: http://www.afpc.randolph.af.mil/cp/siccp/intern.htm

Remember that while PAQ has positions available with OSI, it is a hiring process seperate from OSI, as it hires for other AF departments/agencies as well. Therefore, they may have different hiring standards and procedures from FLE agencies (not necessarily the case, but it's possible).

Don't EVEN get me started on the FBI honors internship!

Good luck w/ the AFOSI thang. I was lucky enough to panel w/ them some 2 years ago. Let me just say they are VERY picky. Kudos to those they pick though. Top-notch agency. Like ROS, I'd say them & NCIS are also my #1 & #2 "dream" agencies & maybe the FBI---still (no hard feelings...)
