If you want to see something REALLY funny, go to www.ice.gov and checkout the careers section and then the investigations portion. Aren't those photos of everyday agents doing criminal investigative work awesome. Unfortunately at my office we only do the beach landings in skin tight wet suits with MP-5's every other wednesday. I personally don't like the dew rag but wear a yellow beanie. :D

We actaully wear "floaties" for our water operations, makes shooting a little difficult but you command a hell of a lot of respect with some nice Sponge Bob water wings !!!!

Is this what NCIS refers to as a "Special Agent Afloat"? :D

hehe, that's false advertising I think! I would like to see our agents come out of lake Michigan or Huron with those outfits on, they would be shaking so bad they wouldn't be able to aim. By the way, how are they coming out of the water with thier guns and wetsuits and no other gear? Do they make you guys/gals hold your breath while you swim under water? and what the heck is the point without SCUBA gear? why not just run the boat up on the beach...and why would ICE be doing a specops marine beach landing???? I have a new found respect for all agents, I didn't know they were SEAL quality...Maybe we could call them the ICE SEALS...no that would be a copyright violaiton I think...Hmmmm...I know, how about ICE Walruses? :D

    Here's a silly question:

Is ICE referred to as I-C-E or simply as "ice"?

I've heard both on newscasts and so forth and wondered. :p

Generally they are referred to as "Ice" (as in one word), not spelled out. Do you really expect the media to take the extra time to be sure they've got it right? Hell, I've heard the media refer to the ATF as "BATF" and "BATFE", nevermind the fact it says ATF on their badges  . Similarly, I've heard the media refer to ICE as "BICE", when again it clearly says "ICE" on the badge. I've only heard of three FLE agencies that have the word "bureau" in their names and actually have the "B" used in their acronym: FBI, BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs), and BIS (Dept. of Commerce's Bureau of Industry & Security). Many others don't use the "B" (ex: Bureau of Immigration & Customs Enforcement = ICE, Bureau of Diplomatic Security = DS, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives = ATF, etc.)

We've been called Immigration Enforcement, Customs and Immigration Enforcement, The Bureau of Immigration and even the FBI (on too many occasions), but very rarely Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

But, it's our own damn fault. We (the agency) doesn't put out anything to the media to teach them. The crap we do put out has to do with terrorism and homeland security, which we really don't do.

Oh, you young people. We did have a series - sort of. I guess you never heard of "O'Hara, U.S. Treasury". Each week he was with a different Treasury Agency.
    IT STANK.
In the pilot, he tasted the heroin, shot several folks (no paperwork), and comendeered a USAF Fighter jet! (Well, I tried that once. All I got was a USCG Boston Whaler).
The show only lasted 3-4 episodes, then mercifully, it died. Of course, this was in the days of the U.S. Customs Agency Service, 20 years before ICE.

Sounds like you got lucky, getting the CG rather than the AF! :D

I remember on a CSI Miami episode where Horatio Cane (the main character) told one of his people to call I...C...E. I love it when these shows do stupid stuff.

I worked with an ICE agent on a SW. He gave me his business card which said "Investigation and Customs Enforcement."

He was legendary Customs before the merger.
Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

[QUOTE]We have the same problem now. No one knows what CBP is so you have to say it in full which, after several times starts to feel like a paragraph. I still prefer to just say "Customs".

Yeah, Chewy, I hear ya--that is annoying. It is easier to just say "Customs". Imagine being an Immigration Inspector (when they existed!). Everyone referred to us as "Border Patrol" or "Customs"--never INS. It was like we weren't there! Now, I usually say I'm from "Customs" (after all the creds say so) or "INS" depending where I'm at and what I'm doing. Usually one of those names can get me what I need done.... it'll be a while before CBP & ICE are generally recgonized by the general population I think.

By the way...you guys are cracking me up with the comments. I love the bit about water wings. I'm still laughing...

And SWAT1, just to let you know...I get to repel off buildings on a daily basis and my guns have silencers and I get to car jack people and not get busted. Oh yeah, I can break CI's out of jail too and not get in trouble. I can tell the ASAC and SAC off too without losing my job. Wanna come work w/ us down here? Ha ha...
