National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) Security Police?

Does anyone have any information concerning the NGA's Security Police? Particularly at the complex near St. Louis, Missouri, which is where I've noticed them. Are they DOD Police (I ask only because the NGA is of the DOD. They seem a pretty top-notch security force, and the payband they're in is similiar (almost) to the Pentagon Police.

I assume you already looked them up on the internet. I google'd them and their official webpage was the first site returned.

Boy I've heard of a lot of 'em, but not this one. I've heard of the agency..don't know much about it but what its name implies..but never their police in particular. The agency itself is pretty low profile as it is.

Beat me who their assigned under. They're the ones that put all the satelite information into usable formations.

I think they fall under the intelligence side of government so they could be part of one of many groups or have their own.

The NGA is under the Dept. of Defense, BUT it appears that their "Security Police" are agency staff, not DOD Police (traditional 0083). They start at the new DOD pay band rating of NI-02, which is equivalent to GS-9/10, and possess a top secret clearance. Excellent benefits, and they pay you for every single bit of time you do something for them (i.e. training, etc.). It seems like I know alot. I live in the area, so the NGA is well known, used to be the Defense Mapping Agency (that might ring a bell for some). They have a lot of sensitive intelligence housed there.

I was just curious if others might know of them, and any thoughts.

A job description for them states:
"Security Police Officers enforce federal, state, DoD, NGA, and local laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations. They maintain vigilance over installations for the purpose of providing police/security in the protection of life and property and civil rights of individual citizens and for maintaining law and order. Responsibilities include preventing, detecting, and investigating crimes and misconduct involving misdemeanors, felonies, and other violations, apprehending violators, and assisting in emergency situations. They patrol assigned sectors and conduct physical security checks of buildings to provide protection to NGA personnel and visitors, classified information, and property. They maintain surveillance of the perimeter. They enforce traffic laws and investigate traffic accidents."

Maybe they're something similiar to "military police" or "federal reserve police" with some sort of exclusive jurisidication, but then the part about "local laws" is somewhat confusing. Possibly applies to traffic related incidents.

I think the most important question is how do they fit

National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Security Police on a badge.

If they abbreviate it... it doesn't really roll of the tongue.

    Just a few thoughts....

    1) Benefits - As to 'excellent benefits', generally speaking benefits are the same regardless of agency (except retirement for covered positions, of which NGIA is not). So a VA Police Officer gets the same benefits as a secretary for GSA. The NGIA Police get the same benefits as a secretary at GSA as well.

    2) Time for work done - With the exception of covered positions, they have to pay you for working, regardless of agency, even if it is training (well don't tell that to the folks at CBP).

I would look further into any agency beyond just a webpage or job posting. I have seen some job descriptions for 0083 and other positions that looked so appealing and high speed, yet in reality were just stationary security guard spots, with the title of 'police officer'. I'm in no way trying to burst your bubble or that of the job, rather encouraging you to look further into it. Ask the officers what training they receive and what they actually do. Do they attend mixed basic at FLETC or are they Missouri POST Certified? Do they actually make arrests, or just call the locals? How is the management? Are they supportive?

    Good luck...

    Thanks for the insight folks.

    Some additional info...
The protection force used to be contract security company, but a few years ago went proprietary. I don't believe that they are "real police" as some may moniker. I'm not personally concerned about 'official' status or authority, just curious. Depending on your placement (prior experience, military, etc.) your starting pay is $36,748 - $61,087. That's not too bad.

As far as the benefits and such, I was just trying to make the point that it 'appeared' to be a decent job package.
