    Question Af -- OSI

I was reading about the 1811 SA spot and its seem like a great job? Anyone have any further information, application process, or know any individuals that has experience with this agency?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I think it's OSI, isn't it? I also think I remember ROS talking about this before as well. If I recall correctly, OSI has both civilian and military agents. I'm not sure what the breakdown between the two is, but my understanding that it's a very much sought after position for graduates of the AF Academy. You probably knew all that anyway. :p

Correct, error on my behalf, OSI

The interesting thing is I wasn't aware of the civilian agent slots, which are may be labeled differently, but are equivalent to 1811 positions.

Anyhow, they have some great opportunities for civilians and I wanted to get an idea if anyone has friends or experience with this agency...

    thanks

Yep. The break down is nearly 50:50 as far as civilian and military SAs. The civilian guys are 1811s, the military are not (though they do the same job). The difference between the military and civilian agents are the federal 1811 retirement for the civilian agents (6c), and a few other things like rank (as a military agent, your rank is classified until you reach Major or higher, whereas the civilians are on the GS scale).

Correction, the civilian SAs aren't just equivalent to 1811 positions, they are 1811 positions. A good buddy of mine in grad school was a military agent with AFOSI, and he was the one who initially sparked my interest in their agency. I'm no expert on them, but I've done a lot of research on the agency, so if you have any specific questions about them, fire away or send me a PM.

I worked with one OSI agent on a fraud case where we served an SW. But he was from the Military end if I recall. Smart guy, spoke fluent russian, and was a whiz kid on the computer forensics. He talked highly of the agency.
Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

While still in the military last year, I interviewed for a "military" special agent slot. Quite a few ex-military agents, go "civilian" agent. The pay is better, and it's easier to get the slot. It's not to say that it's impossible for anyone else to get in. From my experience, it's really going to depend on 'what' you have to offer.

While it's true that a number of military agents get hired on in civilian agent positions, due to their experience they are typically hired under vacancies that are at the higher GS levels (around 12), whereas the vacancy announcements for GS-7 and 9 generally go to other applicants.
