    Usms ?

Does any one (Switchback) know the status of Marshal hiring. I've been holding out hope that they will contact me. I took the test and passed (6/01) with a 71.5. I don't even know if this will be good enough to get an interview. Tammy, I believe it was, at H.R. told me to call back in March if I hadn't been contacted. She also said that they might not get down to my score, that they like to keep the scores higher. If that is the case why not just make the passing score higher? I have been running and preparing myself physicaly for the test but again wonder if I'll ever be contacted. If anyone can shed some light on this, I would appreciate knowing if I there is any hope of ever being contacted. Also, I am presently 35.5 years old. Thanks in advance, Lance

Every morning in Africa a gazzel awakes and knows that it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. The moral of the story is. No matter wheither you are the lion or the gazzel. That when the sun comes up your running..........

details on becoming a deputy marshal

I am very interested in becoming a deputy marshal, but I really would like to know something more. Like what age do they really start hiring at? Or what type of previous experience would really give me the best chance for employment? The web site said previous law enforcement experience, or community service. It's obvious that being a cop would be better, but do you really have to be to get hired? What would be the best course of action for me to tak if I really wanted this and I do. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I took the test for USMS at age 22 one month out of college, no LE experience. They didn't call me back until I was 24, 2 years later. I went to Phoenix and did all my testing, it took one day. My advice, get in shape and make sure you can do the Physical fitness test. Don't put it off. I passed because I had trained my butt off, plenty of people did not pass that test, and acted suprised that they couldn't. I didn't want to fly 800 miles to blow a running and push up test. You have to pass everything, so get on it. I'm supposed to go to the academy here in a few months.

Saorry I missed this one earlier, guys.

The Service hires from the military (Operations Shining Star), colleges (the co-op program), and general public. They focus on one of those 3 ar any given time, depending on the flavor of the the day.

Obviously, getting co-ops they can be as young as 21-22. More typically, our ages run from 25 or so up to 35.

Back when I was hired, my class had mostly guys with degrees and LE experience, both, and some also had military. A few of us were lacking one of the 3, but made up for it in other ways. I was 24 when I was hired. I had a classmate that was 23 and another that was 36. The ages really vary.

Take Tex's advice. Be in shape. Don't waste yours, mine, or the other fit coordinator's time.

BTW, the last few guys I know to have gotten offers were in LE already... local PDs.
